I know what the 3750 is, but whats the 302 and Blonder Tongue?
What company makes the 301, 501 and 721 for Dish?
Scott Greczkowski

Echostars Division called ETC makes the 301, 501 and 721.

I have a 301 and version 1.57. Should I have a later verison and how do you get it?
Does ETC have actual manufacting facilities or do the contact out to JVC, RCA, etc. ?
Scott Greczkowski

Yes they make it themselves, the RCA and Phillips units are made by them as well.
RCA is supposed to start making their own, but that has not happened yet.

The only difference between JVC, Phillips, and the new RCA models at wal-mart and RS are the smart card doors! They come out of the same plants with the same parts!

Keith,
Can I have your permission to add your post to the EKB with proper credit given? Since the demise of the old echostaruser.org and dish network's removal of this information we've not had a page with this information available on a "permenant" basis.
See ya

Credit for this goes to Rlj5242 at AVS, a compay called SCI is the one that actually manufactures the units for E*.
Quote from press release from June 7, 1999
SCI manufactured EchoStar's first satellite TV receiver three years ago and has since been involved in manufacturing EchoStar's next generation satellite TV receivers.

Update: 8/1/02
Now all models support cascading using a Twin & SW-21
BobaBird

Do they also support cascading SW44/SW21? Do they all have 129 on the dish pointing screen to allow the SW64/SW21 cascade for viewing 4 satellites?

Scott, it would be great if you or Tony could host a permanent link on the models and current software versions.

I agree, let me see if I can get something up this weekend or by Monday latest. :)
Blonder Tongue Labs makes CATV and SATV stuff, so it's possibly a box for cable companies using Dish as a channel source?
QPSK/QAM seems to be their big thing currently (http://www.blondertongue.com/) but they make tons of stuff.
Their model 6189A is a QAM transcoder compatable with E*

Take a weekend off and see what happens! :) Keith gave me permission to post his info on the EKB a couple of weeks ago and I created the page the same day.
Marcus, you all now have 3 places for the software versions.
The software versions are also available:
1) as mentioned by Scott... off the main DBSTalk home page.
2)The EKB on the main page at http://echostar.swiki.net or directly at http://echostar.swiki.net/295
3)The EKB on DBSTalk on the main page under receivers at http://ekb.dbstalk.com or www.echostaruser.com AND directly at http://ekb.dbstalk.com/295
Ask and ye shall receive. :D
See ya

301 receiver and P172 (1.72) software upgrade...
For the DP301 receiver, why are 1.57, 1.70, and 1.72 all listed as "current" software? Does this mean that I could have any one of these versions and be on the latest software? I'm confused.
I received P170 for my 301 receiver several weeks ago, but haven't heard much discussion about the P172 version.
What is included in the P172 upgrade?
Also something to consider for future enhancement, keep a running list of all software versions for each receiver and list date software first deployed and a very brief indication of significant change for each version. That would be neat! Especially months from now when we might need to reference back.

I believe that 1.57 is the "current" software. Dish began to spool 170 to the 301s, and before it was done spooling 170 to all the receivers the newer version 172 came out. So some receivers may still have 157 since they have yet to be upgraded. Some receivers got 170 before 172 came out and are in the queue to get 172 now. And some receivers are going directly from 157 to 172.
172 is currently spooling to 301s.
