View Full Version : R15 Active Channel Question?

I rarely use Active channels but today I click on it and went to Best Bets.
I seen a program I wanted to record and I hit the (R) button to record it.
To my surprise you can't schedule anything in the Active Channel to record other than a PPV. I felt like I was a dog being teased by someone with a T-bone that had no intention of letting me have it without first running around the block.

Why even have Best bets on the Active channel I don't understand it.
I know the new EPG slated to come out by Oct may fix this but the
tease of Best Bets got to me.

FYI I never did record the program manually.

Yes I know I can manually record it by going to the channel and finding the time.
But Its a DVR not a VCR thats why I don't own a VCR.

Its great knowing the D* development team reads this stuff.
Oh BTW 10C8 is another baby step in the right direction.
By next year I hope the R15 and the R20 will be at a development state where I no longer compare them to other DVRs

Yet another 2 cents.

This is a question? Anyways, your right, with the current guide you can not schedule a program with Best Bets.

Also, Best Bets is mainly there for advertising new programs to DirecTV's customers. I don't think it's there for our benefit much, but more for DirecTV's benefit.

As he said, but, as the link in the active channel for what "America's watching" works, a link to record a show that's being advertised should be there IMHO.

This almost sounds like it's going to be DirecTV's answer to one piece of TiVo funcdtionality. Someone else who switched from the R10 to the R15 made a comment to me the other day, about one thing he missed having. When a show (or, more annoyingly, a commercial) showed up, if you were prompted, you could just hit the thumbs up and it would set up the show to record for you (and I guess if it were for a commercial it would download stuff on that product for you, but I never tried it). If I had to guess, I would say that this is DirecTV's attempt at that type of functionality.

Or at least it WILL be, when it's fully functional.

I don't think so. NDS already has technology for something similar to that that I believe DirecTV will deploy.
