Hello everyone:

I have been reading the forums for months, and finally am posting for the first time.

I have had D* for about 7 years, and decided to upgrade to the H20 receiver with 5 LNB dish due to my recent purchase of an HDTV plasma TV. I have the H20, installed today, and my SD DirecTivo from earlier.

The installer clearly didn't know what he was doing, botched the install, and left. I didn't bother saying anything since he clearly didn't know what he was doing, so I just called D* to get someone to come back and fix what he had done.

Here is the problem:

New 5 LNB dish has 4 feeds coming from it, into the basement, where those feeds are connected to a ground block and 3 cables are attached, going to the various locations.

On the H20, in the guided set up, the 101 sat gets an OK, but all others get fail, despite me getting signals on all of the various transponders, to the best of my memory. I believe, however, that the 95 sat gave zeros all the way across.

I can receive anything that broadcasts on 101, but the local HD channels (MPEG-4) are not received, nor HBO HD, SHO HD, etc.

Upstairs, just for fun, I re-ran the guided setup on the SD DirectTivo (R10) and specified a 3 LNB dish (old one was round dual LNB, old school dish).

I was able to get signals on all sats, all transponders, etc. Set up using that dish spec worked fine on the Tivo.

What do you think is wrong with the install? I want to try to have some idea before the installers send someone else out, who probably also won't know what he is doing.

Since the 3-LNB install on the DirecTivo worked with no problem, the only thing I can think of is a cabling problem. Remember, the only cable that is new is what drops from the dish to the grounding block inside the house. The actual leads from there to the TVs are several years old.

Any ideas??

Swap receivers and see if the location with the Tivo works, that would help rule out a cabling problem..

Problem solved...turned out there was an old diplexer still on the line, and it was filtering out all of the other signals. Called and cancelled the follow-up tech visit...
