View Full Version : New Equipment Suggestions
I want to install a new Dish system in my home. I want to have four receivers ( all HD capable ) with possibly up to two of them a DVR. I will be a new customer and want to take advantage of the best current promotion, although movie channels are of little interest to me.
Also, I want to purchase, not lease the equipment.
Questions:
Which receivers would you suggest ?
Will I need one dish or two ( and what type ) for regular and HD reception ?
The home I am in had a satellite system before, will I need to contact Dish for a pro install or just hook it all up myself ?
Lastly, What type ( if any ) switch will I need ?
Thanks in advance !
I want to have four receivers ( all HD capable ) with possibly up to two of them a DVR. I will be a new customer and want to take advantage of the best current promotion, although movie channels are of little interest to me.That would be two ViP622s and two ViP211s.Will I need one dish or two ( and what type ) for regular and HD reception ?This depends on how "Southeastern" you are.The home I am in had a satellite system before, will I need to contact Dish for a pro install or just hook it all up myself? If you buy all of your receivers, you'll have to buy everything. The only new customer perk you'll likely be able to get would be a few months of free movie channels and maybe a $100 rebate on the HD package. If the wire employed the in the previous installation was RG6, you're probably good to go.Lastly, What type ( if any ) switch will I need ?You'll need to buy a DPP44 switch. If it were my setup, I'd do this:
1. Lease a ViP622 and two ViP211s
2. Buy a ViP622
The up-front cost on this would be $549.98 after ten months of rebates with no commitment.
Step one will insure that you get all of the ancillary equipment that you need (including the antenna(e)) plus professional installation.
The price to self-install starts at about $1,950:
2ea ViP622 $999.98
2ea ViP211 $699.98
1ea DPP44 $174.99
Dish(es) $75.00+
Shipping $??.??
Installation $???.??
Total $1,949.95+
Well, I no expert but here is what I found when I went through the reseach on purchasing/leasing a VIP622:

There are no curent promotions through DISH where you can buy a HD receiver. Your can buy them from dealers but I believe you are paying retail.
Which receivers would you suggest ?
You only have two choices - VIP622 dual tuner DVR and VIP211. You will need two of each for four HDTVs
Will I need one dish or two ( and what type ) for regular and HD reception ?
You will need to figure that out based upon where you are located. The southeast is pretty big. I am only using one dish, a DISH 1000
The home I am in had a satellite system before, will I need to contact Dish for a pro install or just hook it all up myself ?
If you can personally tell, you need to have someone look at it.
Lastly, What type ( if any ) switch will I need ?
DPP44

Your questions seem to have been answered, but I thought this deserved more comment. You continuing monthly fees will be the same whether you rent or purchase the receivers. One of the receivers is included with the basic package and the others will have either a lease fee or an "additional receiver fee". You can find 622s under $500 and 211s under $250 most places, but Harsh's $2000 figure should get you to pause for a bit. The $199 fee for leasing a 622 can't be recovered (like the residual resale value of an owned receiver), but you might be better off to lease a 622 and two 211s, and then purchase the 2nd 622 if you can't lease a pair of 622s and two 211s. There are restrictions to DHA that may prevent you from leasing two 622s and two 211s.
If you purchase everything, you are able to remove receivers from the account and add them back at your convenience. You can also stop service with owned receivers and not have to send them back to DISH as you would with a lease. That might come into play for someone that spends 3 summer months somewhere else (or winter snowbirds). The advantages to owning the receivers are pretty obscure today.
If you DO lease, look into ClubDISH from some existing subscriber to save the initial $50 activation fee (but you still get the $50 credit on the first bill and everything else you would normally get).
