View Full Version : 10B8 stability verses 10C8

After being forced to 10C8 I wish I still had 10B8.
I actually never had to reset the machine once with version 10B8 for the R15.
And I have already stopped counting how many times I reset with version 10C8.
I have discovered too many bugs to list with version 10C8 mostly in conjunction with mix channels and the Active channel.
Is there anyone else out there that was more stable with 10B8?
Keith
I have a stable R15. Only 2 lockups in over 6 months.
10C8 has some nice bug fixes but the overall stability is not as good as 10B8 (or 10C0). No lockups yet but trick play (FF,RW, jump back etc) is nowhere near as responsive with 10C8. Very sluggish compared to 10B8/10C0 for my setup.
I will do a reset tonight and maybe delete some things tomorrow to see if it improves.

I voted a "4" (and stated that I was probably about at a 4.6 state) in the poll regarding the confidence one has with whether or not the R15 would record. I've been "singing [recordability] praises" of the R15 in recent posts. But, I got 10c8 a few days ago, and now I am dismayed. :(
MONTHS ago I used to have problems occasionally of shows not recording. But it has been MONTHS since I had a recording problem. One day after getting 10c8 I have had several shows not record, or I got incomplete recordings (never got an incomplete recording before)
With 10b8 I had problems with the "jumpback 6 seconds" button. With 10c8 they are still there. Don't think the problems are necessarily the same, but they might even be WORSE: I was watching something from MyVOD. I was using several presses of the "30-sec slip", and then several presses of the JB6s button when I "overshot". It started out working fine. Then, I noticed that the JB6s button was only jumping backing a second or two. Eventually it got to the point where it would jump back 0 seconds (I do mean ZERO!). Never did that in 10b8
It used to be that you could not set a "bookmark" in the live buffer. Well, duh. But, I used to be able to go into a show in MyVOD that was still in the process of recording, and set a bookmark. No longer. Now, you can't set a bookmark in a MyVOD listing until the recording is completed.
A comment regarding the "improvement" with the "5-minute about to record" warning message: Well, I can't really comment, yet on the "improvement". See, even with 10b8 that had ceased to be an issue for me. >90% of the time I'm watching TV now, I am watching something from MyVOD, not live TV, and you won't get that message if you are watching from MyVOD.
I will say that the [almost] immediate audio coming out of "pause" is nice. And, so are some of the improvements with "Find By" [now "Search"], but these new "bad things" more than cancel out the few nice things.
I've reset 3 times in 3 days with 10c8 (it was less than twice a month with 10b8), and that is NOT good--will never get a full "guide" at that rate, which means I can never do a decent "search".
I'm not sure what the OP meant by "stability" of 10c8. To me, instability would mean that sometimes bad things happen while other times they do not. I think we have some of that with 10c8, but I think we also have cases where bad things happen with a 100% certainty. I'm not sure which is worse.

I think if I had one I would be deleting and re-entering all SLs after an update. They seem to like to make changes to data structures, etc. without much regard for migration from earlier software versions.

I might try that, later. My problems with shows not recording in 10c8 have had to do with shows that I had set to record with just one press of the "R" button in the guide, not SLs [ R)) ]. I never deleted all SLs after previous (prior to 10c8) updates, and did not seem to have problems because I did not do that.

Fair enough. It was an existential, not universal, statement (for those who remember their logic classes :)). i.e. some who had problems after an update seem to have fixed it by redoing their SLs, not to say that all who don't redo SLs will have problems.
I suppose the same may apply to one-off recordings.

Well, "fair enough", too. :) What isn't "fair",though, is, to paraphrase Ronald Reagan, "Here we go again." :(

I did that and my CSI SL's started recording repeats when set to FR, so your theory may be correct.

That would probably help, but then again if they wait two weeks after the upgrade I think the logic would kick in too. That way all the old things in the todo list are gone.
