I hope it's ok to post hardware questions here. I see the old HDTV Hardware forums had been closed. I also posted in the ViP 211 forums since the problems occurs with it as well.

I just purchased a Sammy LN-S3251D. Having a problem with this TV with both the 211 and 622. When switching from an HD channel, while waiting for the next channel (HD or SD) to tune and appear, you are able to see what looks like artifacts around the outline of images from the previous channel/screen. The more annoying thing is, you can be watching the next channel, and if there is a dark area in the scene, you can still see the outline of one or more images from the previous channel. Once the scene changes in the latter channels to a bright scene or full of color, nothing is visible and picture is great.

It's more noticable at higher contrast settings so i tried turning down. It almost disappears after turning contrast lower than I'd like to keep it at. Tried cheap HDMI cables, expensive HDMI cables with same result. Does not appear using Component. Again tested with 211 and 622 so it's not just the 211 where I originally had the problem.

Anyone have this model TV or similar, and experienced similar problems? Could this be a compatibility issue or do you think it's just bad tv? Samsung rep said this shouldn't be happening but I can't fully trust that.

I moved it over to the Dish High Def area. We don't allow cross posting and after reading your post, this seemed like the best place for it.

I am installing a 40" version of that Samsung HDTV on Friday, i'll let you know then if I have this problem. Going to connect a 211 with HDMI I bought from monoprice.

That would be great. Doesn't show up at first. Takes 5 to 10 minutes. Samsung rep told me that brightness and contrast should be kept low. I turned contrast way up for an hour or so just to test with different settings. Does this cause damage to an LCD?

Interesting, I get the same deal on my samsung 42 inch plasma as well. The artifacts of the last picture appear on the channel and stay until another picture overrides it.

This is generally an issue with Plasmas, as they get ghosting when the contrast is turned up too high. I haven't heard of it happening on an LCD, but that is likely what is happening.

Sounds like you really need to turn down the contrast. High contrast is a problem with some TV's (especially plasmas) and can cause burn-in. Your contrast should generally be around 50% of the maximum, if you have it a lot higher, you will be more likely to get ghosting.

So what should I do? Return the plasma and get an LCD or keep the plasma and live with it?

And does anyone have any ideas how to cool off this plasma tv? I have it in a small room and after about an hour its like a furnace in the room. Makes it really uncomfortable to watch. Do LCD's produce that much heat as well?
