I keep getting pop ups from popcorn.net saying that it will only stop popping up if I subscribe to the service for $25 a month or $100 per year that will renew automatically. It says that I authorized a 3 day free trial and they have legal right to keep these pop ups until I subscribe. I don't remember downloading the program but it was installed in my computer, I deleted everything that I could find related to this program but can't make the pop ups stop. Can anyone help with this? I have no problem paying for something I have use for but I have not even heard of these guys before these notices.

SCAM SCAM SCAM. Also very illegal

You must not be running current anti virus and anti-spyware software.

Try googling the exact message you get. You will find the answer on how to kill it.

Thank you. Yes it's a virus notifier_060627. I'm going to run my anti virus program, hopefully it will work.

I believe the term for this is EXTORTION.

This seems to be an evergrowing problem. Here's one that was solved.

This raises a interesting question.

If you use a popup blocker wouldn't that only mask the problem but it still resides on your computer? Seems in some cases, getting rid of the offending spyware rather than blocking it's visibility is the right thing to do.

I use a popup blocker from Google but mostly keep it off to see many legit popups. Sometimes when visiting the many reference links offered in these forum posts, I have to turn it back on. So far I haven't had the experience of the extortion game. Lucky I suppose but I also run a antispyware and antivirus program with daily scanning and updates. It's the only way and I really don't surf the weirdo sites (other than this one :D ) like many people do.
