Ok so I am putting a sat Receiver in my parents RV for them so when they travel they will have sat. I know that Dish has a whole seperate thing for RV's but the thing is my parents only travel like 2 weeks a year (they both still work for a living) and will keep their service on at home since its mostly short times and small trips. I looked at the spot beam map and my question is if they travel outside the radius will they not be able to receive signal from their local stations with a regular dish 500? Will they still receive all the other channels?
Question 2 concerns the West Coast super stations (ABC/FOX) do they black out NFL football games on these? if my dad loses the locals as long as he can still see his team play he will survive.
Thanks Guys
West Coast ABC/Fox are not Superstations, could be distant networks. I have not seen games blacked out on any of the distant nets I have had over the years with the exception of the CBS-HD feed which may follow different rules. Not knowing which set of networks your parents have, really do not know if they will be lost or not.

Garys is correct in pointing out the difference between a Distant Net and a Superstation. Although I receive East Coast and Denver Distant Nets and all Superstations, I believe my experience may be enlightening:
As far as the Distant Nets, I have never had anything blacked out from them (that I am aware of). I have often seen two different games from the same league at the same time, including games that you might expect to be blacked out.
Not so with the Superstations. Some games are blacked out on the Superstations.

Ok I pulled the channel list just to make sure I understand better when I talk to him on the phone tomorow so I can try to explain it to him  Anyways
SuperStation are located on 231-239 and those can be blacked out
Local channels will either be on 1-99 or 6300 for hd and 8000 for regular Im pretty sure he gets the LA for locals now those shouldnt be blacked out but can he lose those channels if he travels out of a certain area?
Last question I dont think he will need it for the RV:sure: but for his house I know hes thinking of buying a HDTV soon so to get CBS HD 9484 does he need another dish to see the satelite at 148? Im pretty sure all he has know is a 110 and 119 but not certain since Im more familiar to what we need on the east coast. Thanks Guys
WGN at 239 is not a superstation. Channels at 241-248 are distant nets and are repeated at 8000 and 8100 range. Any channel 1-99 are mapped down locals and may or may not be HD depending on your dma and system setup. HD channels run 6300-6499 at the moment and sd locals are above that. The superstations and distent nets from LA are not on spotbeams and shouldn't be a problem. HD locals depend on where his dma is and may require another dish to get them, usually 61.5 or 129. The CBS-HD feed is usually only available in dma's where they have a CBS Owned affiliate, those channels are on either 61.5 (east) and 148 (west).
Blackouts on the Superstations are very rare since WSBK no longer does Red Sox Baseball.
There is one type of blackout for Distant Networks. It is the Local NFL gate protection. If your local team does not sell out a game before 72 hours of the game, it will be blacked out on any Distant Network you may have carrying it. Most never see this as the coincidence of the teams which do not sell out and the game actually being on a Distant Network are very rare.
It always helps responders to know what market is the home market you are asking about.

And then you have the Raiders. NFL blackouts are common and cover SF and Sacramento DMAs. I sub to KCBS as a distant network in Sacto DMA and have never had CBS LA black out the game. I'll have to concede that the Raider Nation doesn't fall into the "most" category.:)
Are you within the 75 mile radius of the Stadium?
All good information, however I wouldn't base any decisions on distant networks as they will most likely be going away in a month.

I'm not within a 75 mile radius. Neither is someone living in downtown Sacto getting KCBS-DT. I'm now curious if bay area HD users are blacked out if they have a dish pointed at 148. I guess I could swap WCBS-DT for KCBS-DT to get the blacked out games in HD.
