Hi all... I've been out of the loop on this forum for a while. I read up on the new L360 update (which I now have on my 622) but am confused on what is happening with my receiver, so this is why I've created a new thread and apologize if this should be somewhere else. I have some issues (which I've had since early June when I got this receiver) and just need a sanity check to make sure maybe I shouldn't call tech support:

SO... I don't know (or understand from reading here) if my reciever suffers from jitter, stutter or whatever. I was trying to pinpoint if maybe certain channels did this -- I think 'maybe' it's my locals (I'm in Seattle)...but need to test further. Frankly, I've not had time to really troubleshoot with it being summer and all. So this is what happens -- the picture jumps from letterbox to what looks like a square (black bars on top and bottom). When the picture is smaller (square), on the top part of it, for lack of better term, it jitters and there's a line that's kind of white/distorted on top. Hard to explain but NOT hard to miss. Especially when it switches from this size pix to the letterbox (and back and forth and so on and so on).

L360 did not seem to fix anything... L359 seemed to 'kind of' fix my audio sync problem, but now it's back with 60. Last week and this past weekend (I think when we received the update) my receiver had been rebooting maybe every couple days or so. Last time this happened (a couple days ago), I had to go downstairs (main TV where the receiver is located) and hard reboot but it was spinning loudly and didn't sound good. So after it finally turned off, I unplugged it for a while.

My wife is growing frustrated with what we paid for this... and I am too. I'm a Quality Assurance Engineer (software) so am aware of software issues (early, buggy versions), therefore am in ways a little more patient... but this is sooo not good.

Any advice/comments would be mucho appreciated.

If you box is rebooted every couple of days spontaneously, You might have something else happending here. Spontaneous rebooting should not happen ever few days. If it does, I would start to look at what might be causing it.

Can you describe the reboots in more detail. What are you doing when it happens. Is it caused by a cetain operation you perform or does it just happen when you watching TV. It sounds like you use the receiver in dual mode. Is it possible to switch to single mode and use it for a few days to see if the reboots dissappear?

Thanks for the feedback... not doing anything when it reboots ... just watching tv and it suddenly goes off. Yes, I'm in dual mode and have only witnessed this on TV2 so the picture goes out and I see snow and hear white noise (as if I changed the channel on my TV). I will try to change to single mode and see how it acts. It has not rebooted now since Sunday (knock on wood)... so who knows.

What about the picture jitter or whatever and resizing? Have you heard of this (described this way) before? Or is this the crap most are experiencing?

THANKS!

You don't say what kind of display device you're connected to, what output settings you have your 622 set to (16x9, 4x3#2, 1080i, etc), if you're watching TV2, etc, so my response is based on some assumptions.

First, the letterbox to windowbox thing...this is a station issue, not a 622 issue. Sounds like you're watching an upconverted SD 4x3 aspect ratio program on an HD station, so you're seeing bars on the sides of the picture. Then, you see a letterboxed commercial - ie black bars on the top and bottom of the image. So, combining the top and bottom black bars with the sidebars gives you the windowboxed image. Perfectly normal.

Secondly, if you're seeing a white distorted line on top of your image, that means your television is probably a digital display device (LCD, DLP, plasma or something) that is actually underscanned a little bit. That line is the closed captioning information that is sent with the signal, and is normally hidden because the television set usually have some overscan of the image. Yours apparently doesn't. Don Landis left an excellent description/writeup of this issue in this post: http://www.dbstalk.com/showpost.php?p=621051&postcount=4
So, with the 622, and with your television, this is also normal. You may be able to adjust your television to hide that line, or you may not be able to. Hard to say. But it's definitely not the jitter problem.

As for audio sync - some people are still having the issue, others aren't.

Thanks so much to both of you! I will now go test some stuff out. My TV2 is SD set at 4x6...but that whole thing is confusing to me too (the setup of TV1 and TV2). TV1 is HD. I think it's clear... that this could very well be my own setup issues! ;)

Again, thanks so much -- I know my description wasn't that good (as indicated by my own ignorance of this system). I'll check back in with what I find out. Glad to hear I don't have the jitter/stutter issue :D
