good luck finding a good installer anymore. the hsp, & rsps are dropping the price of what they pay satellite techs so much your better of getting a 10 dollar an hour job. when i first got in this field you pointed one dish at one satellite. I did the first multisat dish in my state. now most installs have multiple satellites, dual tuners, backfeeds, with hd. It is almost brain surgery but the pay is almost half. I'm so very close to moving on. I feel almost sorry for the public, and the lack of experence on sat installs. all of these companys are experencing high turn over rates. I doknow that there has been a lot of hacking out there (poor installations). some of the problems are the companys hiring these installers rewarding the fast installers who don't care about your house or electric codes. maybe there should be a union.

Tell Me about it, Luckly my pay rate can't go down, been with echostar for a long time, but i see who they hire, and damn i just tellem go work at burger king, your better off, there starting the techs over here at $13hr. not to metion they hire off the street, but hey thats what ya get for low money, But it all starts at the gm, gm's make 61k a year, im's make 45k-50k a year, fsm's make 35k-41k a year. Witch if you know big business it is a very low salery, Witch = they don't give a damn what there techs do, how the jobs are done.
Right now there trying to force me to become a fsm, i toldem they would have to atleast go 10% over on what i made last year, so i showed them online my last paycheck stub for last year, $58,927.00, and they laughed at me an told me that money isn't everything, then i replyed: yeah but i can't get the techs to pay my morgage, my bills, and for my family to eat, so i left it at that.
Our turnover rate at my office is crazy, we hired over 11 techs in the last 6 months, and out of those 11 we only have 2. and one is leaving in 3 weeks for a new job, go figure.
The only problem with the union is that dnsc hates them so much that they will make you wanna leave the company even more, up in upstate ny they got a union into there office, those poor guys haven't gotten a raise in 4 years. dns refuse to give them a raise with a union there, and will not talk with the union

I'm very sorry for those union guys.
but I never have recieved a raise doing satellite in the last six years. I consider myself one of the best in the business I have always done peice work not hourly so to say. every year the companys that I have worked for will cut install rates or require me to pay for small parts and or wire. you don't get rewarded for your experence. the more you know the more service calls they route you.

Folks.....your in a "low end" service industry job...Sat techs ..cable techs ..etc.
Not rocket scientist industry. Yes ..I beleive you should be paid a "fair wage" ..but pulling cable and hooking up receivers and pointing a dish "in the general direction" is not a technology job parsee.
If "Joe anybody" can go to eBay and buy gear, parts and supplies ..then call DISH to activate thier service ,,,why would DISH give top dollar pay when they can get "Joe anybody" off the street ?
Your speciality has lost it's "flare" and the industry is cutting costs to "rock bottom" and unfortunately your the last stop as the "ungahwa flows down hill".
There is only one way out ..you gotta tell DISH to "take this job and stuff it"..
I say this ( I really wasn't gonna respond at all to this post and changed my mind) because in 1972 I was a Northwestern Bell cablesplicer, pole climber, come good ole boy telephone installer. Then NWB had a hiring freeze and laid off nearly 10,000 of my buddies..
I got my ass into the local community college and learned a new word  "modem".. the rest is history and I never looked back !
