Have you considered Verizon EVDO? You'll have 14.4 in the sticks and mostly 350-1000 kbps near metro areas. You need to check with your local Verizonwireless dealer to be sure what you will have. It works well for me when I travel and can even stream video over it.

For backup I have aol but maybe not for long. It's their lowest sub rate of $4.99 a month. Hardly ever use it since EVDO is so much better. Last year with T-Mobile GPRS, another option for you to check out. I had to fall back on aol dialup about 30% of the time. T-Mobile just had poor service for my needs on GPRS.

Any help would be greatI keep an Earthlink account as a backup. They acquired my original dialup ISP. I get a $2 discount on the monthly service through my insurance company (USAA). They used to have something going with Sprint.
