Good... and much less of a wait than in getting Season 1. Since Season 1 just finished earlier in the Spring... having a Fall start for Season 2 will be pretty much like a normal hiatus for a regular season on SciFi.

Surprised you waited so long to watch it!

I really like the new series and David Tennett as the Doctor, but I've found I'm somewhat annoyed with the writing of the show. The writers do have some original work, but still seem to rely far too much on the classic monsters. I mean we've already seen three appearances of Daleks, not to mention repeat showings of Cybermen.

Give me stories like The Girl in the Fireplace over a Dalek encounter anyday!

I didn't realize just how many Dalek stories there were originally... There were only a couple during Tom Baker, then a few more for Peter Davison, Colin Baker, and Sylvester McCoy... but there were LOTS for the first doctor...

So one could argue this is a return to the beginning with lots of Dalek stories.

Season 2 was amazing. I really like Tennant in the role. I'm hoping he'll stay for a long time.

The first official picture for Season 3 is now up on the BBC Doctor Who site.

Freema Agyeman has begun filming as Martha Jones, the assistant of Doctor Who, who is played by David Tennant. The pair will meet William Shakespeare and a clan of stormtroopers as well as visiting 1930s New York in the BBC show's next series.

Hmmm... again with the repeating monsters: Filming of the Christmas episode which guest stars Catherine Tate as a bride who finds her wedding day interrupted by an alien plot to destroy the earth has already been completed. The storyline features the return of the Robot Santas and also guest stars Sarah Parish as the evil, alien mastermind.

Favorite Season 2 episode was The Impossible Planet/The Satan Pit. The Girl in the Fireplace was a close second.

Glade to see that Captain Jack will be making an appearance in the 3rd season in addition to being one of the main characters in Torchwood.

Favorite Season 2 episode was The Impossible Planet/The Satan Pit.

Definately a good one, but I still liked the Fireplace episode best. ;) Satan Pit was too obvious of an ending, and had way too trite of an last line said by Rose when she dispatched the enemy: "Go to Hell!"

Anyone know when season 3 starts in the UK?

Then I can start up my BitTorrent client again. :)

I find David Tennent's Doctor as a cross between Sylvestor McCoy's and maybe Peter Davison's.

Christmas Special of course will be Christmas Day.

Season 3 will start sometime in spring of 2007.

That's what I thought, but was hoping for an earlier start. :)

I can say that the torrent downloads I've been getting are of great quality.
Much better than SciFi SD. They look better on my widescreen notebook trhan when I burn to DVD (for obvious reasons). Maybe some day if SciFi goes HD then Doctor Who will really look good.

Don't forget, the Torchwood spinoff starts up in the fall.

Now what would be even better is SciFi/Dish announcing a SciFiHD Channel, to start (and Dish to carry) somewhere around September 1st.

Yeah, yeah, I know, wishful thinking but wouldn't it be nice.

I keep thinking/wondering if UniversalHD will eventually show Dr Who in HD since they show Battlestar Galactica in HD there after running it first in SD on SciFi... but I've not heard anything about it for the Dr.

Season 1 & 2 were not filmed in HD, so probably not.
BBC has plans to do season 3 in HD though.

They were sort-of... Not HD in the sense of what we think... Someone posted once before how it was filmed... The show is absolutely in widescreen and in higher than SD definition.

The DVDs look great, and it would look better on UniversalHD than it does on the bitstarved SciFi where it is shown letterboxed.

Yes, they were done in widescreen.
But the reason they are higher than SD is because PAL format has a higher resolution than NTSC.

PAL is known as an HR or High Resolution service. So HR shows on HD dont look that bad.

Yeah, I'm lazy that way. :) I also really like David Tennent (isn't that how it's spelled?). Girl in the Fireplace was pure magic, no doubt about it! I'm also really enjoying watching the Dr. Who Confidential series immediately after each episode, but I've always enjoyed watching all of the behind the scenes extras on DVDs as well. Pretty cool to get a full half hour of behind the scenes extras for each 45 minute epsiode!
