I just installed a H20-100 HD receiver with an HDMI connection on a new Sony SXRD. The picture on the HD stations is pertty good. The picture on the digital stations is not sharp like it was on my Tivo with the 3 LNB dish. Is this normal? Also having trouble holding onto the local network channels in HD. They come and go.

What are you using to pick up your HD (and digital) stations? An OTA antenna or the new AT9 dish?

I'm pretty satisfied with what I'm getting on the H20 from my OTA antenna. By contrast, the new MPEG-4 HD locals coming off the AT9 dish seem to pixellate frequently, to me suggesting marginal signal levels/ poor alignment but I can't prove that. I know we've got some signal level problems with it on the 101 sat and the transponders on 103 seem to be just barely there, again suggesting a problem. However, we've had the installer back 4 times and last time he replaced the AT9. We have a clear shot and a good stable (and level) mount.

As for the H20, we've had ours going on 3 weeks. My wife hates (and I admit I'm growing to also dislike) the guide on the H20. Requiring two clicks is starting to become an annoyance. Very bad design.

I have the new LNB-5 dish. The OTA does not work well in the area I live.

Most DirecTV HD locals are substantially inferior to OTA because they have to decode ATSC to analog, then re-encode the analog to MPEG4. They also increase compression and reduce the bit rate to keep the bandwidth down. Then there are problems between the stations and the DirecTV Local Receive Facilities, and, of course, degradation caused when sending the data stream from the LRF to the DirecTV Ka-band uplink center. Finally there are the problems with the H20 receivers design and software bugs. But, keep in mind that DirecTV's aim is to satisfy most SD subscribers who think DVD's shown on their HDTV ARE in HD.
