View Full Version : Down arrow/Record reset does...?

...what exactly?

The FAQ here says it returns it to out-of-box condition, but after doing it, I noticed that the series link defaults still show our adjustments and the system still knows how we programmed our remotes, so clearly SOME stuff isn't being reset.

I think it probably only does a hard drive format (and what would be called a "quick format" in the Windows world at that). Looks like some stuff must be stored in flash memory (apparently not the weather active channel's zip code, though  ).

That's odd I thought it was suppose to clear the Hard Drive and reset the defaults too.

May it gets the remote info when you use the remote? Maybe it sends that info in the IR burst?

Possible (and cool, if it does) but pretty unlikely. And then there'd still be our SL settings to account for.

That's what I was thinking. You program the codes into the remote so that it sends the correct signals to operate everything. It will still operate my TV, Receiver and DVDF player if the R15 is off.

Maybe, for whatever reason, it didn't complete the reset? Care to try it again (if you haven't set everything up again)?

Nope. Already fully repopulated. I'd need a pretty good reason to do it again.
But if anyone else is going to do it, and would care to observer the effect on SL and remote setting (before using the remote) that would be nice. :-)

I thought he was talking about the info screen knowing what devices he had programed. Your correct about the remote still working without the R15 thought.

I've always found it weird that no matter what mode the remote is it that it sends a signal to the R15 ie. the light flashes and if you hit a wrong button it tells you that your not in D* mode. Why does it need to talk to the R15?

Wolffpack you do Down Arrow records all the time, does it keep any of your settings?

I was. So was he. His suggestion was that the R15 was reading the codes sent by the remote and displaying that info on the screen.

At least I HOPE qwerty didn't think I was suprised that reseting the box doesn't also reprogram the remote itself!

And, now that you mention that "Not in DTV mode" message, that does sort of lend support to qwety's theory.

Well, those who have two or more R15s could test this easily enough. Go use the "wrong" remote. In fact, even with one you could just enter a different code and then switch back without using the onscreen instructions to see if it notices the change (and when--I'd suspect it wouldn't happen until you tried volume, mute, power, etc.--something that operates the other device).

Yes. I meant to say that, but I forgot.

I just replaced my D11 with an R15 and am still using the D11's remote. I'll check what the setup screen shows when I get home. Actually, I've got nothing on that one. I could do the DA/R thing.

Good so all three of us where talking about the same thing :)

Before you do the DA/R grab the "new" remote from the R15 and start using that, then check the info screen to see if it changes.

No change with the other remote.

Same results as you ApK.

From what I've seen, DA/R does as walters explains in post #2. It does a quick format, recreating the partition, resetting the two FATs and then recreates jopa and all of the .dbf files. Beyond that it does not reset anything stored in flash/EEPROM. When I truly want to get as close to a factory reset as possible I do a RESET DEFAULTS, RESET EVERYTHING and then a DA/R. There are still some things (like recent searches) that don't get reset but each one of these options does a portion of resetting to factory defaults. RESET EVERYTHING runs you back through the initial setup when you reboot. IIRC if sets a flag that next time you RESET your run through everything again.

Thanks for the clarification Wolffpack.
