I got the last update(10C8) on 8/9 and have never had a major problem till tonight. I try to watch a recorded program and it plays like 4 seconds and then goes to a black screen. I try to fast forward but nothing happens; however, it does allow me to go back. I've checked a couple of different recordings and have the same problem. I've restarted the receiver and that didn't fix it.

Well now I just tried again and it's working fine now but has anyone else had this happen? Maybe it was just an odd occurence.

I've had 10c8 for more than 3 weeks. I think had a few very brief "black holes", but I was watching a Star Trek Next Generation tonight (probably recorded a few days ago). About halfway through it became black. I FF'd to the end, ALL black. :(

When you run into this "black hole" try the skip to end (holding the slip button down until it goes to the end of a show). I did this and got past the black hole and could then rewind and watch most of the show. But watch out, rewind too far and you run into the hole again. See if that works for you.

I had the same problem with 10C8 (never before that). I'd be watching a recorded program and it would go black screen, FF or 30sec slip wouldn't get past it. The only way to correct it was to Pause/Unpause (or change the channel, then go back). After doing that video would play fine.

I haven't played with 10D3 enough to see if this bug is still there.

Thanks for the info, but I'm pretty sure that's what I did the first time it happened. At the "end" it was OK, so I backed up to around where the problem occured, and I was OK, again. That's why I called it a very brief "black hole". The last time, though, it was "black" all the way the end. :(

Hmmm, think I'll try to remember that. Do you think stopping the playback, and starting it again would fix it, too?

BTW, you're in S. CA? When did you get 10d3? I'm in S. CA, and I haven't got it yet. I wonder how DTV can distinguish between you and me??? We ought to be croutons in the same bowl of soup. I always put my R15 in standby whenever I'm done watching TV.

I'm pretty sure that would work with the video problem I had. I got in the habit of just doing a pause/unpause to get around it though. This is the first time I've read anyone else having this problem with 10C8.

I cheated:D I forced the update (press 02468 after a red button reset and you see the "Hello" blue screen- only press it once and don't press anything else) hoping to catch the latest beta that they sometimes send out. I got 10C0 that way which was a beta that never went out as a full release. Then I came on here and there was already a thread about it.
So far so good with 10D3....

Oh OK, I "cheated" last time to get 10c8, but that was after waiting more than a week after Earl had said DTV had started rolling it out on the West Coast. I also just wanted to try a 02468. I think I'll wait a bit longer just to see how long it takes.

This occurred for me watching the start of a show that was still recording. (I was about 45 minutes behind) OK until I hit FF, then all went black. Tried to stop/start FF and RW, then play. Sometimes audio was present, never video. Went back after recording finished and the playback was still black, no audio. As an eastern location, maybe I'll see 10D3 before the next update  or not...

I've seen this several times too. It's like it gets stuck. In addition to Wolfpacks suggestion, you can back up and 4X FF through it. 1X, 2X & 3X don't seem to work, but 4X usually does.
