View Full Version : HR20 monthly fee?
Pardon my ignorance, but is there going to be a monthly fee for the HR20? Not a leasing fee for the unit, but a DVR fee.....

Same DVR Fee as the R15..
$5.99 ONCE per account.
So if you have 7 DVRs (like Do)... just one $5.99 fee (not 7)

So if I have Total Choice Plus (not Premier) I can replace my lame standard box with an SD DVR and replace my DTivo with the HR20 (when it is available in my area) and only pay $5.99 per month for DVR services? Do I have to pay a lease fee for each box?

Yep...
You still pay the "lease"/"Mirroring" fee.
If you already have a DTivo on your account (and don't have lifetime for it).
Your bill will not change (unless you still are at the $4.99 rate for DVR service, then it would only go up $1)

You have to subscribe to HD, though, right? I say this because some are talking about replacing their R15 with these, even without a HD display, just to get the stability. Extra $9.99/month if you didn't have it already?

I don't believe you are required to get the HD package.

You are not required to get the HD package (As far as I am aware)

Will lifetime still cover the fee? I currently have 3 DTivos. If I decide to get rid of all three of them & get two R15s & an HR20 would I have to start paying the fee since technically the lifetime was for Tivos?

I don't know if the grandfathered lifetime will carry through if you disable ALL of your TiVo powered units.

But most likely if I just replace my HR10 with HR20 & keep two Tivos it would probably still be grandfathered? Is that what happened for anyone that got an R15 but kept a Tivo?

Yes... that is consistent with what happened with R15 owners...

I'm still confused as hell by this whole lease thing. I have purchased my 2 DirecTiVo's, so I don't have any experience with it.
I have one active reciever: an HR10. I paid good money for said HR10, so I would like to think I'll get and HR20 for a very reasonable deal.
How does this work? Let's say I'm going to continue to have one and only one TV connected to D*. If I get a "leased" HR20, do I now pay the monthly mirroring fee (assume $5) even thought I only have 1 rcv'er? Or do I now pay a $5/mo (or more) lease fee to D*? Or is the more likely scenario, that I'll just "get" a HR20 (with no additional fees) as a replacement for my HR10?
I'm so confused. This lease thing conjures up visions of crappy cable boxes and gives me the shakes. Of course, if I'd think thru it long enough, at $5/month, my HR10 would have had to last at least 10 years to pay out.

The lease fee replaces the additional receiver fee. D* waives the fee for the first receiver. So it works the same as far as fees go, the difference is now you have to return the receiver if you cancel your account or disconnect that receiver.

OK, so if you're a single recv'er household, there is no incremental fee, just your programming + the DVR monthly charge.

Correct. And HD if you have the hd package.

Hmm. That's actually a bit of good news. I was assuming (incorrectly it sounds) that the DirecTV DVR would not be the same fee "group" as the TiVos, meaning that I would still have lifetime for the 3 other TiVos that I have, but would be charged the fee for the new HR20 receiver. I guess it's good to be wrong some of the time :)
Is there a lease fee on this thing other than the initial price?

Only if you have more then one unit on the account...
Then you have the "mirroring"/"lease" fee of $4.99 per unit.
