View Full Version : Directv commitment question
I'm currently in the middle of a 2 year commitment from my purchase of the Hr10-250 last year. I know if I got the HR20 that would restart the 2 year count. Unfortunately I'm not willing to commit 2 more years to my tv provider. Too much can change for me to commit 2 years anywhere. I'm also under the impression that I could just return the equipment that got me the commitment and I can leave with no cost.
Now lets say I get the HR20 now. A few months later I decide to cancel and I want to avoid the cancellation fee. Can I simply send back just the HR20 even though I would have still been in the 2 year commitment from my HR10 last year. I'd rather not have to send my HR10 back as well. Thanks for the help.

In generall...
Yes, you should be able to just return the equipment.

Actually no you will not be able to just return the receiver, the commitment is to your account not the equipment and since you will be leasing any new equipment that renews your commitment, you will have to return the equipment since you dont own it and you still have the commitment on your account, you might be able to avoid it if you return your "OWNED" equipment but the newer ones that renew the commitment are all LEASE equipmen

I couldn't tell you for certain...
You might want to give DirecTV a call and talk to one of their lease specialists.
Trust me you'll prolly talk to me later today when i get to work and give the same info :D

Oh well, I guess I'm not going to be getting any new equipment from Directv. The only thing keeping me at Directv is my modified DirecTivos which are absolutely awesome. That and the NCAA Tournament package. I just don't understand how they think they can get away with a 2 year commitment. I don't care about the box subsidies, cable and FIOS give you free equipment and they don't have any contract. And while they are in effect renting them to you it's no different than the mirror/lease fee that Directv charges for additional receivers. Cable/Fios charges a fixed rate for a one box system and an additional charge for a second box. Directv does the exact same thing except they also have up front costs on most of their equipment (absolutely absurd in my opinion) and a 2 year contract.

They can get away with it in a lot of places because there is no Fios and cable quality is an oxymoron it itself.
My wife's cousin got tired of the bad picture on cable and was elated when they began offering digital cable. Now, instead of lines on the image, she sees a black screen!
There are lots of small towns and rural areas where satellite TV is a godsend, even with all the hoops one must jump thru.
