View Full Version : Broken receiver from day 1! Opinions?

One of my D11 receivers did not function when installed. I did not have a TV in the bedroom, so the installer did not check it.

When I got him to come back one week later, he did not have another receiver with him, and promised to bring a new one with him when he returned to the area--another week later.

Next week I had to call him, and discovered the transmission had gone out in his truck. He said he would call me and give me a "heads up" as to when he could bring the replacement box. That was over a week ago!

There are four reasons I have not complained to anyone: 1. He is a really likeable guy and did an EXCELLENT cosmetic job on a fairly large install. 2. I still do not have a TV in that room. 3. I certainly am not rich and can understand car problems, and 4. I am not generally a complainer.

HOWEVER, I would like this all to get settled and make sure I get the replacement I deserve. I am afraid as time goes by the company will try to claim the box broke after installation, which it definitely did not do, and make me pay shipping for a refurb. I don't want to register a "complaint," per se--just get a new box.

So who should I call? If your response is something similar to "Burn the creep!" then please don"t post; that's not my style. Thanks!

Call DTV and explain the situation. You need an installer to come out as the original install isn't working.

Here's an update on my situation. I called DTV and they will FedEx another receiver. They will not guarantee what model it will be.

Looks like the installer was right that I could receive a refurb.

What are the chances I will get another D11? What older model could I get? Are they all OK?

Probably about 90+% if you are getting a non-dvr sd receiver, it will be the D11

It could also be a D10 seeing that is the only other Directv basic model that has been released operationally they will be the same but the D10 is larger and black. I would go with the 90% chance it would be a D11.

Thanks for the replies, and I hope it is a D11. They are cute little boxes and I like the way my other one works.

And here is a further upday...the box arrived THE NEXT DAY!
I talked to them Wednesday at 3 PM, FedEx brought it Thrusday at about noon.
My wife says the packing slip reads that it is a D11-500...what I was hoping for. I guess it's Humax instead of RCA, but that's fine.
