So I live in DC and I'm a huge Ohio State fan. I don't yet have DirecTV, but thought about getting it along with ESPN Game Plan to get the games. Problem is, when looking through the schedule, I'm going to be paying 110 for a few games, all while missing a few.
I could be wrong, but isn't it possible to pick up the raw broadcast signals with your dish? Can I find the missing games using the dish by finding the right channels, even if they're not being broadcast on any channel I get through DirecTV? Or is that totally wrong?

Not on DirecTV. Back in the old days of "big ugly" C-Band dishes you could sometimes find network feeds like this, but those days are gone.
Those big dishes still work. Actually theres a company called 4dtv out there that picks up those wild feeds. You can catch stations sending shows to local markets also before they actually air. The great thing about it is you get the programing straight off the satellites so the programing is not compressed or run threw wires to your home. Also you can buy programing in huge packages thats really cheap. One bad thing about it is there is barley any HD programing. Bet it looks great though.
Don't forget the KU band free to air satellite dish, and make sure you get digital MPEG 2 and analog FM video receiver.
The FTA dish are about 3 foot "90CM" and comes with a motor.
The whole setup cost around $300.00 and it's lot's of fun and it's just like a shortwave radio picking up weard stuff outhere!:)
Just go to www.satelliteguys.us and click on Sadoun or Fortec that's sells FTA Receivers,Dish and the motor that move the dish.
I get tons of FTA NCAA fooball games on KU and most of tham are in the clear and then some are scrambled so these signal are mixed bag you will have to contend with.
Good luck on starting your TV DXing hobby!!:)

I would think that almost all Ohio State football games will be shown on one of the following:
- ESPN networks (ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU)
- ESPN+ regional broadcast (shown in ESPN GamePlan)
- ABC national broadcast
- ABC regional broadcast (shown in GamePlan if not on your local ABC)
Looking at OSU's current schedule, the first five games will be televised (Penn State not scheduled yet, but it will be on TV). Five of the last seven games are TBA, but I'd say only the Bowling Green game has a chance of not being televised. You will need GamePlan for the ESPN+ games (one scheduled so far) and ABC regional games (three scheduled, and D.C. almost always has an ACC game for the 3:30 PM slot).
Check out http://bigten.cstv.com/sports/m-footbl/spec-rel/082804aad.html - looks like every game except Bowling Green will be telecast. You may need GamePlan to pick up those ABC regional games not shown on the D.C. ABC.
Edit - oops, as noted the above link is for 2005. But as you can see, most OSU should be on TV somewhere.
