Hey everyone. I just got my system installed and am moving over from comcast. THe main reason is for the Sunday Ticket, but i have several questions.
1) Why is my R15 DVR so slow! My Comcast DVR was lightening fast when it came to fast forwarding and stopping right when I press the button. Sometimes when I press a button on my R15 remote, I don't even get a response. Its rather frustrating.
2) The tech that installed my system told me I could plug my computer into the USB port of my DVR and download my programs to my computer to burn onto a DVD. Does anyone have any links or advice on how to do this. I know its not as simple as just plug and play.
Thanks and I look forward to reading more on this board.

1. Apparently the fix for that is a reboot (which you'll have to do again in a few days  )
2. Nope, can't be done at this time.
1 - I noticed the same thing. I think the slow response to button pushes came along with 10C8 and 1047 s/w versions. Before them, I didn't see any delay when I hit any button. Now it's painfully slow. If you want to ffwd at 2x speed, e.g. I have to hit ffwd once, wait a second, and hit it again. I'm hoping this gets fixed on the next s/w release.

Specificly the download to pc and burn to a dvd part,
Have they ever said that this will come to pass???(he excitedly asks)
or is it simply on the wish list?
Have they ever said that this will come to pass???This was implied with the announcement of the DirecTV2Go feature. As DirecTV2Go isn't available yet, neither is beaming recordings to a computer. You're best bet is probably to invest in a cheap DVD recorder and record off the S-Video and RCA audio outputs.
It is likely that doing direct digital transfers will be severly restricted if it is implemented at all.

That's what I do. Record in the highest mode/less hours the recorder has. Then just take the DVD to the PC. The quality is still excellent, to me at least, and then you can do with it what ever you want.
Thanks for the reply, harsh!
I thankfully don't need to resort to analog capture just yet, but I appreciate the info and I'll keep my fingers and toes crossed on the "severly restricted" status for the future.

I was thinking of getting a DVD recorder but my problem with that is don't you have to actually record the program in real time? I mean say I want to record a whole season of something, that means I need to watch hours upon hours of the same program just to get it on DVD.
Please correct me if I'm wrong, but that's all I know about DVD recorders.

Yep, that's right. There's at least some talk about a "mark and play" similar to the "mark and delete", but even then you could only do as much as would fit on a DVD.

Try a reset...I started getting slower and slower response to the remote after the 1047 update. Did a reset and we're back to "normal" again now..for now.

That is right but its handy if you want to edit out commercials, add slo-mo or freeze frame parts, add the banner show information at the beginning and things like that.
I dont wait until I get hours and hours of shows. With blank DVD's so cheap, if its a show I think I want to save, I do it when I watch it the first time and then delete it. I dont use my DVR as a mass storage device, I watch and/or record then delete on a daily basis.

I'll have to give that a shot. I figured it was just the s/w because: 1) it coincided with the latest s/w update, and 2) it's happening on both my 300 and 500. I'll give the reset a shot. Thanks.

You could start copying one each night when you go to bed. You can write the DVD in multiple sesions. Slow, but you don't have to site there.
