Although EchoStar Communications Corp. is still working hard to get its proposed merger with Hughes Electronics Corp. and DirecTV Inc. approved by federal regulators, groups of child and family advocates are already worried about Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp. acquiring DirecTV should the EchoStar deal fall apart.

The groups said allowing Murdoch to buy DirecTV would give "the media mogul control over one-half of the satellite-television market and an overwhelming platform from which to broadcast television programming loaded with gratuitous sex, violence and foul language."

If that isn't reason enough for the merger to be approved, I don't know what would be. Murdoch is the undisputed king of mercenary greed and profit-mongering at any cost - carried to obscene levels thanks to our federal government's extremely lenient policies regarding immigration.

People at this forum tend to talk about Charlie Ergen in terms of being evil. That makes me fall on the floor, laughing hysterically! Charlie isn't even in the same ballpark with ol' Rupert. Anyone willing to invest a bit of time doing some research would validate that point most emphatically!

Not hardly. The only relationship I have with that network is to watch their MLB coverage - period. They don't carry anything else of any redeeming value whatsoever, in my view - thank you very much. Especially their News channel, which they tout as being the most fair and unbiased in the industry. I find this claim to be uproariously laughable ... IMO, it is the MOST biased (to the political Right) of any TV news source that I can think of - bar none! The "entertainment" programming that they feature caters to the lowest common denominator across the board. I'll take CBS, NBC, and ABC over FOX each and every time.

I'd rather have Mr. Murdoch buy D* than E*. Not because I don't like Charlie- think he puts out a good service, but rather, I want to keep DBS competition.

I don't know anything about those family groups but I think that all of the networks, except maybe CBS, are just as guilty of the same charges they are saying about FOX.

And IMO while Fox News Channel may lean a bit to the political right, it's bar-none the most balanced of any TV news source that I can think of. I'll take FOX News over the left-leaning CNN and networks every time.
