Best Buy Has the HR20 in stock for sale or lease. My question is if I buy and bring it home will I be able to fire it up ? I have 5 Lnd dish and HR10 HDVR now and have local channels in HD.

I live in the San Francisco Bay Area

Thanks

Yes. If you're replacing your HR10-250 DVR, just connect the HR20 in its place. If your adding it as a second DVR you'll want two new RG6 coax cables from the dish to your HR20, assuming you want to use both tuners.

You will need to call D* to get the new unit activated.

Are you positive it is the HR20?

In a primarily WHITE box, with orange/red lettering that says:
DirecTV Plus HD DVR ?

Or is it the primarily BLACK box, with blue lettering that says:
DirecTV HD DVR?

If it is the white box... then that is the HR20
If it is the black box.... then that is the HR10-250

I am only asking, as even the internet retailers haven't gotten their allotments, and they usually get them weeks before the big chains.

The BestBuy website shows a silver (or maybe white) box for the HR10-250, and "search" does not find the HR20.

I'll have to dig up what my HR10-250 box looks like.... I have the original packaging...

Sorry, I don't mean the packaging, I mean the box enclosing the unit itself.

Ahh... yes... the HR10-250 is silver in color.

I earlier was referring to the outer packaging

I *highly* doubt it was an HR20. As Earl says, it shouldn't even ship to a retailer like BB for at least 3-4 weeks yet. Mid Sept is the release date that I've seen for online retailers.

Agreed, it is probably NOT the HR20.

Went to BB and CC today, neither had it yet and were not sure when they would get them.

My UPS driver is the one that saw it at BB. He swears it is the HR20 as he has the HR10 and knows the difference. I saw him today when he droped of packages at my store and he said he will go back and find out for sure what it was he saw. I will find out monday

I keep calling Direct every day and get new release dates. They say late this month.
Time will tell.

It is true, it is on their website. I got an email from Directv telling me that BB had it. I went to their website and I am about to order one now!!

Now here is my next question, when i order this and it arrives, can I just call Directv and they will bring out the new at9 dish AND the new multiswitch that I need. I have the older 3lnb one, so I need the new dish and 6 X 8 switch to run lines to my 5 receivers- 2 each for the new hr20 and r15?

I did, to (as I'm sure thousands of people did). However, I am not going to jump on that train until they announce any swap-out program that they may work out with the HR10-250s. At this point, I would swap the one I have that is leased and keep the other two. I'll hold off buying retail for a while.

By the way, I did kind of find it funny that when I looked at the Best Buy site, they had the model listed as HR20-250. :)

So, if I buy one at Best Buy and install it myself, is it a lease or do I own it?

Lease. Any that you buy at the big-box retailers will be leased (and will cost much less that it would for a straight-out purchase).

Actually, big box stores are on teh lease plan. Indpendent authorized dealers can sell you the HR20-700 as an owned unit and most will charge you a premium to do so. You should not have to pay a premium to have the HR20-700 as an owned unit and you should not pay more than $299 either way.

So Robert you are saying the HS20's we get from you at $299 are owned and not leased correct.

Correct, you can set them up as owned units. You should be able to do that with any independent authorized dealer.

What's the benefit of paying more to own it? You still have to have D* service to use it, correct? And regardless of whether you lease or own, wouldn't you still have to pay the $4.99/monthly fee?

DTV TiVo Dealer

You should not have to pay anything extra to own the HR20-700. They are $299 to lease or own.

That being said I recommend setting up the DVR as on the lease plan.

We are sending an email to all of our customers explaining the differences of owning vs. leasing along with a promotional code and direct installation order phone number.

guys even if you own it ,then if it tears up then, d8 won't replace it for free unless you get a super nice csr, because we can only replace them as leased warranty in or out equipment. just a thought. but if you own it then you can add pp to it. unfortunately pp team is a whole different ball game on how they work w/equipment since that is an area I don't work with

which is why the lease program comes w/a commitment so switching out equipment is better than owning.

For those that own it, if it breaks down and they happen to have the monthly product protection plan, wouldn't that plan cover the HR20 like it does all other ird's?

i should hope so, but like I said we transfer to them & don't know what they do from there. But I hope it would & plus think of it this way, brand new item would be kinda hard to send a refurb out right?? so yur guess as good as mine.

When they set mine up as a leased unit from D*, they asked if I wanted the pp. I said no out of reflex, but why would they offer it anyway? I don't own the thing, don't I just get to call and tell them it's broke?

Anyone that purchased it over the last two weeks, should contact best buy to get your price match.

As it is on their site as of this morning at $299
(even though it says Comming Soon still)

They ran out.
Earl mentioned something about needing sufficient quantities so that each store can have a minimum allocation and they were selling via the .com too fast.

I wonder if they will be in Sunday's flyer. As i mentioned in a previous post that was misread, my local BB was order to remove all HR10-250's and ship them back. So at this point, they don't have an HD DVR to offer. And I am not in an MPEG-4 market.

I just got my HR20 at a BB in Baxter, MN $299. They had it mislabeled on the shelf as the HR700-250. They only had one unit. I was fortunate.
