I didn't do a research prior purchasing 622 model. I didn't know that I have to pay for the DVR fee eventhough I own the receiver.
All dual tuner dvr receivers have the dvr fee, the fee is waived if you have All-Everything Package or higher.

Who's fault is that? Shame on you.:) :) :)

HD Platinum is the way to go! For not much more money than I was paying for HD-Silver + HBO + the DVR Fees for both my 622 and 522 receivers, I now get everything DISH offers.
I'm pretty sure you can upgrade your service at anytime to wave the DVR fees.

This is NOT true for the 721 - but that's several years old now. I have one and love it - no fee and it works great 95% of the time!

The 721 is not an HD reciever, which is one reason why he probably got a 622. If he wanted SD only, he would have gotten a 625 or some other SD model.

I know, I aways find out afterward.. One of these days I'll learn. It's not a big deal, thought I could get away from paying the lease for the receiver by owning it.
The way they explained it to me is the 199.00 fee is not a purchase but installation fee, if you cancel you have to return the receiver.

It's a lease fee, Dish may charge a seperate fee for installation.

Think of it as a downpayment on the lease ...
You start the lease with a large payment and continue it at $6 per month.

I looked into that too and it's only couple hundred dollars more to buy it. So, I bought it
it was like 499 dollars plus shipping. If for some reason I want to get rid of it I can always get some money back by auction it off at Ebay. so far it's nice though. Wish it came with a bigger hard drive.
what's the story I read about Tivo wants Echo star to disable the DVR on Dish DVR. Will my receiver become useless ?

Yes, Tivo wants E* to turn off their DVRs. E* is pretty confident that they will not have to do that.
