I just purchased a new Sony HD LCD television. I would like to have HD, via Directv, but after reading this forum have decided to wait on the new HDR20 box. My question is........do I have to use a component cable in order to actually see the television in HD? Would a coaxial cable work as a connection between the box and the television?

Component cable or HDMI cables would be the only way for you to view HD.
Coax will not carry an HD signal.

Millions of antenna and DBS users would disagree! It is true that, AFAIK, none of the STBs will output HD over coax. The Dish 5000's HD modulator would do it, but Dish no longer transmits HD in a format the 5000 can use.

Your question has been mostly answered, and it's the same answer whether you have a DISH HD receiver or DirecTV HD receiver. But I think you wanted to post this in the DirecTV HD forum, not DISH HD.
