Anyone in the Denver area rec the HR-20 yet? I'm scheduled for installation of 5LNB and HD-DVR next Monday - The rep I talked to said if the HR20 was available they would bring it... If not I get the HR10. I may call "Ironwood" and see if they have any info.

Did you talk to Ironwood directly or D*?
Both. Ironwood called me from their central 800 number to initially schedule the delivery and setup. However, to leave the note to not bother unless it's the HR20 and get more information about the install, I spoke directly to their Commerce City office, not to their central 800 number. The Commerce City guys will be the ones doing the work...

Just got off the phone with Ironwood.. He said they most likely would NOT be installing the HR20 for me on Monday, Sept. 4th.. He said it could be several weeks until they see any... So..... So much for that. Hope they offer a free upgrade from HR10 in a couple months.

I had read that you guys might be getting it so I called DirecTV. CSR didn't know what he was talking about to begin with and said it was only available to business customers in CA, so I took everything he said with a grain of salt. He told me it wouldn't be available in the Denver area until the end of September, and while he could set me up for an HD-DVR install for next week, he had no idea of knowing if it was an HR20 or an HR10. Also, at the beginning of the call it was clear he wasn't listening to me. I clearly said HR20 HD DVR and he went almost all the way through scheduling an install for an H20 before he repeated what he was ordering and I stopped him. So who knows what is really going on.

Wow - you guys are getting way ahead of yourselves. There are people in Norhtern CA who are not getting the HR20 and you think we will get it sooner in Denver - I've got a bridge I want to selll ya :)
Relax. It will happen soon enough.

Everyone in the rest of the country will get it at the same time. Looks like the official release date is now September 13th.

Do they exchnage the old HR10's out for the new HR20's for free?
I gotta tell you, those DTV folks are something else! First, even though HD locals have been available in the Denver area since the end of June, I never received any notification about it from DTV. And now I seem to be an "A-LIST" customer!
After reading the posts in the DTV technical forum (which is buried on their Web site -- click Contact Us --> Email Us to access the link) and the posts on DBSTalk, I decided to call DTV. First, I spoke to a plain old CSR, who told me that she had no information about when the HR20 would be available in the Denver area. She was rather curt and rude, but I have come to expect that from D's CSRs.
Then I called the 800 number I found in one of these threads, which was supposed to be the installation number. Instead, I was connected with a nicer CSR who told me that they were rolling out the HR20 in LA only to "work out the bugs." She then connected me with the installation department where, she said, I could get further information.
The gentleman I spoke with just repeated that they were testing in LA, and that he thought the HR20 would be available in Denver by the end of October. He couldn't provide me with any pricing information because he said he didn't have any. When I told him what I was reading on the boards (free with just a $19.95 S+H charge) he could not confirm anything. When I mentioned that a D seemed to be telling a lot of different things to a lot of people, he just said, "Uh huh."
What I really don't understand is why D seems to just make up its pricing structure on the fly. I have been a customer since 1996 and this has always been the case. In order to get the best deal, the customer is forced to call numerous times until s/he gets what they want. And most seem to end up having to call the Retention department and threaten to cancel their service!
Another puzzler is why it takes so long for DTV to roll out services that other providers have been offering for years! In Denver, both Dish and Comcast started offering HD locals long before DTV.
Anyway, I guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens next month. Until then, I'm not holding my breath.

It's not happening today. I just spoke with Ironwood, and the HR20s have not yet arrived. It's an "any day now" thing, they say- so I'll assume that means that it will be after the 13th.

Ironwood came out yesterday to do my upgrade and brought the HR10 and the 5LNB dish. He said it could be weeks until they see any HR20's. He did say that I was all set up for it now and he wasn't sure if D* was just going to ship me the new one or give me ordering options.. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Ironwood just received the initial shipment of HR20s for the Denver area this morning. I booked my install for Thursday morning, 9/14, with the same caveat of "don't bother coming out if you don't have the right hardware". So, with a tad bit of luck the beast will be here by about noontime on Thursday. We'll see...

I have an install scheduled for Saturday Sept 16th. Let me know how yours goes as I'm interested in what model they will be bringing out. I already have one HR10 and like to have one of each to play with. I live far enough out that locals come in but least little weather and I have problems and we know how the weather brews in the afternoons.

I'm way the heck out south of Franktown. So even though I have good line-of-sight to Lookout Mountain from here, I get nada on the locals (who are all stuck transmitting in fleapower from their studio buildings on the other side of the hills since the local gentry won't let them put the new antennas on Lookout with the old ones).
The Ironwood guy said that they are returning their HR10s to D*, so the only thing they'll have to bring will be the HR20. We'll see. I did get them to guarantee that they'll be bringing two monopoles for the KaKu dish, because up here on the north slope of the Palmer Divide 60+mph wind gusts are pretty much a weekly occurence...

I called Ironwood the other day and he also confirmed that they are installing the new HR20's. I called D* a number of times trying to get the upgrade from HR10 to HR20 with no luck. They kept telling me to wait for the letter that details what kind of offer I will have. Finally I called and just asked for a new HD DVR. The CSR said sure and ask would I be adding this as a new receiver or would this replace an existing receiver. I said replacing an old one I had. They put it in for $19.95. no questions asked or me fighting for the offer. Crazy!!
Wonder if I'm still getting the letter :)

Yeah I spent a half hour on the phone w/ d* trying to get it and all they could tell me was October. Told them Ironwood had them and all they could say was they can't guarantee anything. Maybe I will try your method.

I live on the western slope, so I really hope they bring out the correct unit and dish. The installation company is Ironwood.

FYI,
Best Buy- Park Meadows told me they received 8 units last Saturday and sold the last three this morning. They think they may get some more this coming Saturday.
The Southwest Plaza store does not expect to get any until the July 29th opening of their new store (across the street in the old ToysRUs building). They said the old store is not receiving any inventory at this point.

I went to the Park Meadows store early afternoon today and they were out. I called around and the Aurora store (Mississippi and 225) had a few left. When I was there to pick it up it looked like they still had 4 or 5 as of 3:30 this afternoon.
Got an email from DTV this morning that the HR20-700 is now available, I ordered and will be installed on Sept. 28th

*ATSC tuner functionality for viewing digital and HD broadcasts received from an off-air antenna will not be available until later this year. A software download will be pushed to the HR20 via the satellite before the end of the year to enable this functionality. Professional installation highly recommended. Land-based phone line connection required.
†Actual recording capacity depends on the type of programming being recorded.
I am a "A-List" customer. Never received any such email (not surprised). I just called D* and CSR told me the only way to get the HR20 was to go to Best Buy. I read him the text of the email, but he didn't know anything about it. I'm now on the phone with Customer Retention, but she put me on hold and has yet to return to the phone. The runaround you get with this company is ridiculous. Just hung up and am now calling again.
It's now half-an-hour later and I'm still trying to reach a CSR who can give me the information I need. I have been transferred numerous times to customer retention and installation, and each time I am either put on hold or disconnected. In the meantime, I called Ironwood and did confirm that they are now installing HR20s in Denver.

Well, won't wonders never cease. The HR20 is in fact here and is being installed even as we speak- after ordering from the D* web site back on August 17, during the (very brief) time when they apparently had a preview test version of the site publically visible with the HR20 on it ( as discussed here: http://www.dbstalk.com/showthread.php?t=62384 ).
The installer's truck has 3 more HR20s in boxes sitting in it, so I'm not the only one getting one at the moment. The installer says that he has done "a couple" already. So, it's now a confirmed fact: Ironwood has at least a few of them in stock in the Denver area. I'll let you know how the rest of the bringup goes...

That's great news. Let us know how it looks and feels once you get it working. I hope they have one with my name on it as I have my install Saturday.
Well, good for you! I gave up waiting for Customer Service and called the corporate office in California. They gave me a toll-free number that goes directly to the office of the president of D* (or so they said). Anyway, I now have placed my order with a nice gentleman named Russ. He knew nothing about the $19.95 deal, but I am getting the receiver, the dish, and installation of my 10-250 at another location for $99. Plus, for all of my inconvenience, he gave me a $10 credit on my premium services for six months -- a $60 value. So in the end, I'll end up paying $39 for the upgrade. Installation is scheduled for 10/2. I hope by that time Ironwood will have plenty of HR20s in stock.
For those of you who are wondering, the toll-free number I called is 1-888-237-8327.

No, not at this time. I may eventually go to the more modern interconnect, as my primary TV has DVI and is only about 40 feet away from the equipment rack inthe basement- but for the moment I'll be staying with component video and optical audio out to the receiver.

I received my HR20 today that I preordered from Solid Signal in MI. I already have the 5LNB dish and 3 H20 Receivers so I just had to hookup the HR20 where my HR10 was setup. It shipped on the 13th via overnight.
Its activated and working except for HDMI but I have component as a backup. The Dolby Digital works but did have problem with non-dolby sound on HD channels. Did a reset and that problem was solved.
Picture is great like H20 receivers. I recorded a program and played back with no problems. Only have less than 24 hours of guide info now. Needs the overnight update to get Guide filled in with more listings.
The HDMI and DD issues are known and future software releases will fix soon. The DD fix is in beta testing and the HDMI is in the works.
While activating I was talking to the rep about how busy they were. I am an 11 year customer and have priority access to CS. Only waited 30 seconds for CS rep. She told me they were not very busy now activating HR20's but they were swamped last week with orders for NFL Sunday Ticket. It appears installation is the bottleneck for getting HR20's to customers now.
gfree111: Did you get the oxcc software update? That's supposed to fix the DD and HDMI problems.
By the way, I was able to get Ironwood to bump up my installtion date to next Saturday, 9/23.:hurah:
FYI to everyone in the Denver area: I was scheduled for an install this morning, but at 8:15 Ironwood called to tell me that they had to cancel because they were out of HR20s. I called the D* "president's" office and was told quite honestly that manufacturing could not keep up with the demand. Supposedly, an Ironwood supervisor is going to call me later to let me know what's going on.:(

Got my HR20 install as planned on 9/21. Ordered on labor day weekend. I scheduled for morning to avoid delays from earlier installs bumping my install. Installer took about 2.5 or 3 hours, most of it building and installing the dish. So far the unit is working like most - it is basically working but has a lot of the known bugs like caller ID, guide and title search show channels I don't receive. I haven't had time to watch an MPEG4 recording yet so I don't know if I have any playback issues. I think I've seen some scheduling and recording oddities, but have to research it some more. It's nice to finally get a HD image on my DLP set.

Well, surprise, surprise. It's now 5:20 MDT and I have yet to receive a call from any supervisor. I called the president's hotline a little while ago and, apparently, my case has been escalated to the district Home Services division, which is right here in Denver. Someone from that office is supposed to call me either today or tomorrow with a resolution. Bottom line, though, is that there aren't any HR20s in the Denver area.

I have not called yet - my neighbor got one accross the street last Sunday- he was expecting a HR10-250 (called for a free one when he found out I got one a couple of months ago)
I was thinking of calling to see if I could get them to give me a free one along with the AT9 dish and install) as I have read they have done so true credits and one CRs has stated we(those with the HR10-250s) will be getting a letter from D* soon to give us the upgrade.
I also saw on the Frapper that one other person in FTC got one.

That's great to hear! Still no word from Ironwood about the availability of HR20s.
Any update?
The truck that arrived yesterday did, indeed, contain a supply of HR20s. Exactly how many, however, I don't know. One was set aside for me and I'm now scheduled for an install on 9/30.:)
Saturday, 11:05 AM MDT.
Two installers from Ironwood arrived at 8:30 this morning. Since I really didn't expect to be the first install of the day, I wasn't even dressed! The dish went up without a hitch. It needed to be relocated because of its size, but that didn't cause any problems. Extra supports were used. They told me I didn't need a 6x8 multiswitch because I only had four (4) lines going in. They used the switch that already was there. (This doesn't seem to have any affect on anything.)
Then it was time to rev up the HR20. The setup process went smoothly and the latest software release was downloaded automatically. When it was time to activate, however, there was a problem. The D* CSR asked to speak with me and then proceeded to read me the riot act and tell me that the "special pricing" I received was only for a leased receiver!!!!! I said NO WAY, and asked to speak to a supervisor. So, she put me on hold.
While on hold, I called the "office of the President" and spoke to Shannon. I told her the story and she also repeated that the offer was for a leased unit. I said that at no time was I ever told that I would be getting a leased HR20, and also mentioned that I owned my HR10-250. So she put me on hold for a few minutes and then came back to the phone to tell me that "because of my history" (I am a A-LIST customer) she was going to change the status of the HR20 from leased to purchased. She also took care of the activation and completed the setup with the installer. Also, my HR10-250 was moved to another TV.
I only have had about 40 minutes with the box so far, but all seems to be working as I think it should be -- including HDMI, DD 5.1, and Caller ID. The menus and options will take some getting used to and I haven't played with MyVOD yet, either.
But I just wanted to post this to let you all know that "so far, so good.":)
Glad your install went good. Mine is scheduled for Tuesday.
Why did you care if it was leased?
Glad your install went good. Mine is scheduled for Tuesday.
Why did you care if it was leased?
Because I own my HR10-250 and I didn't want to have to return the HR20. And because no one ever mentioned that it would be leased.
I am planning to keep my owned HR10-250. I am planning to move it to another TV tomorrow (I wish I could get the 6.3 software before I move it). When I placed my order, I told them I was going to keep it. They said no problem.
They told me the HR20 would be leased.
The only way I will let them take it, is if they give me a second HR 20.
Also, I have been reading on this board that folks have been told that if you own an HR10-250, you'll also own the HR20; conversely, if you lease your HR10-250, the HR20 will also be leased. Not one person I spoke to at D* (and I talked to many during the course of the last two weeks) made any mention of the HR20 being leased. To be honest, I think they make it up as they go along. That's why there are so many different deals and such a variety of information. Anyway, I'm now watching my first local channel in HD (9 News). Pretty nifty. Although the audio is not in DD 5.1, it's still in digital format. Guess not all HD is in DD 5.1. My HD movie channels are, however.

Thanks I will try them after the 24hrs are up today.
I think they are having problems locally as the main number for D* that you called (and me too) can not access the local calendar or answer calls either.
Call 303-287-1414. That always worked for me.

Well I got thru to the Directv rep at Ironwood and she told me that they are running low on HR20s - that the reason I have not been called to schedule a tiime is because there are none. In LA she said they have been told that no HR20s till after Thanksgiving.
I am sure this won't last long but Bestbuy shows stock at the Westminister CO store.

Got thru on that number but they gave me the Greeley number - which I needed for Fort Collins area. The Greeley number went to voicemail - but the box was filled
I did call later and was able to leave a message. I hope that the No Co area will sill have HR-20s as it appears most other areas are out of them

Let us know if you ever have any luck (and I'll do the same). I was scheduled for my HR-20 install today, but it was canceled due to lack of equipment as well. Neither Ironwood nor DirecTV had any idea when they would call me to schedule.

Yesturday the Cheyenne Circuit City said they had some online, unfortunately today they are out of stock. I've called Ironwood several times as well and they won't even come close to giving me a guess as to when I might get mine installed!
Kinda sucks, maybe I'll call retention and see what I can get out of them for all this inconvience. Anyone had any luck complaining?

I think I will try - though I am suppose to be getting the HR20 as a free upgrade I would feel a little guilty complaining about a delay for something that I am not paying for

Let us know if you get anything. I'd like to upgrade a reciever to a h20 or something, wonder if they'd do that?

You might be able to get Customer retention to do that. I would like to get Ironwood to come out and install the AT-9 now - and then they can just drop off the HR20 when it arrives or I can pick one up if they show up at CC or BB (who are all out of stock) if they get shipments

Reggie,
Could you give me that Greeley number? It's been over a week since I ordered my HR20, and I still haven't gotten a callback to schedule my install...
thanks!

Installer - though knowledgeable had some issues. First he left his test gear at his last stop - so I helped him align the dish by watching the TV. Next he forgot to put the card in and - we kept getting a message that it was searching for a sat - even though the setup showed we were viewing all the sats and were OK.
Great guy. HR20 not as intuitive as the TiVo but I like it so far. No chance to play with it tonight - had to go out to dinner.

So Ironwood in Greeley has HR20s now? I still haven't gotten a call about my installation date(I put in my HR20 order back on 10/14) , but I haven't tried calling them yet (thanks for the number by the way). Are the squeaky wheels getting installs first? :)

That would be my guess. The installer did not have any more and the person I talked to said they had Q for them and it would be a while for most to get them,

A piece of warning for some people. I got rescheduled when Ironwood ran out of HR20's. When I called to confirm, they said their work order did not include bringing an HR20. I spent an hour on the phone with DirecTV who promised to call me back with a resolution (of course they didn't). I called them back again, and talked to a supervisor, who said he would fix it himself. Then an HR20 just showed up on my doorstep, overnighted with Saturday delivery. Ironwood is still coming out on Friday to install the dish. I don't understand why the box showed up, but I'm not complaining. If you have an install soon, you may wish to confirm that Ironwood is coming with the right equipment.
