If they had it... then why not take a picture of it... and post the correct one.

This picture in that auction is the H20.

As far as I know... as of today... NO retailers or anyone other then DirecTV has HR20's available for purchase.

Note: I edited the thread title to be a tad more descriptive.

With 99.3% positive on 952 feedbacks, I would not hesitate to purchase from this guy. The only reason I won't buy it from him right now is because I plan on getting mine for free from DirecTV once it hits my area. :)

You still need to be cautious as sometimes ebay accounts get hacked and taken over by lowlifes. Always check for spelling errors and other odd looking things in the ebay listing. This listing looks good, but I'd still be suspicious since the HR20 isn't available for purchase from anywhere but D* yet.

Okay... even with the high level of positive feed back...
Still be cautious....

As I just don't "like" the fact that they couldn't have at least taken a picture of the box, or swiped one of the real pictures of the HR20 from the net.

It's a simple mistake. The HR20 and the H20 look similar enough that it would be easy to mistake them when going quickly. This guy probably uses an automated program to post his eBay listings, and doesn't pay very close attention to each one.

From the listing, it looks like it will ship from a distribution center. I suspect maybe he does not have one in his possession and justs forwards the order to the distributor.

You are correct... Those most have been stock photos supplied to them... as their is no tamper/warranty sticker on the back of those photos.

Listen.... While I may have been harsh at the top of this thread, as we have seen plenty of fake auctions over the years.

These particular ones may be legit.

I have gotten emails/PM's from way to many sources letting me know that the units are committed to retailers and just as they said... the LA exclusive rollout was not going to be "that" long.

I asked one of the sellers if they are in stock and he said it would be delivered in less than a week. The interesting thing about the writeup is that it says you have a *choice* whether to own or lease the unit.

I also call D* and asked them to get me one since I'm in an HD local area and they are selling on eBay. No luck with that line of questioning even though I was nice and had people kick me up and down the ladder.

I took the plunge. Hopefully it is legit gets to Atlanta soon. D* sure can't give me a hard date.

I think you are OK. I believe it is a legit DIRECTV dealer. Very limnited select dealers will receive a limited allocation about one to two weeks before the official national launch date.

The auction listings have clear instructions about activating the HR20 as either owned or leased. The only clear adavantage I'm seeing about owned vs. leased is that you'll own the DVR but it will only have a 90-day warranty. The leased model will essentially have a lifetime warranty and will also get you a free AT9 dish with installation.

You can get a dish included if you're a 1st time subscriber. You are also eligible for a $100 rebate, according to the listing by minidishesdottv.

FYI - The seller minidishesdottv has been selling satellite gear on ebay for years. I have purchased from them in the past and would recommend them if you're on the fence about buying the HR20. I have no affiliation with the seller whatsoever and have no vested interest in whatever he sells.

I had no intention of getting an mpeg4 DVR but at the price he's selling them I'm strongly considering the purchase just to play around with it. I'll have to put up an AT9 dish but I'm considering the leasing option for the free dish and support it includes.

That occured for my HR10 when ordering from them... they charged it about 3-4 days prior to shipping (But then I also got a call from their Credit Card Clearing house, to verify that I was happy with the unit and had no intententions of returning it).

Like I said earlier, the two week LA exclussive was only intended to be a very short time period.

Well I bought one off of ebay, and have paid for 2 day shipping, hoping it will be here before the weekend, so I Should be able to let everyone know if these are legit, I have a AT9 dish install set for sep.11th (through directv not part of the ebay purchase), I really hope this all works out, My wife and I love DIrectv, and cant wait to see The mpeg4 HD, I think this time next year our HDlite problems will be gone, and people will be jumping back to Directv, just my two cents there.

I just scheduled the big-dish install with DTV. They gave it to me for free even though I ordered the HR20 through a dealer.

The rep told me that he knows it is sitting in some dealers warehouses right now, but that they are not allowed to sell it yet. He also said that they are supposed to get permission well before the national rollout.

Sorry, that is incorrect. If you order from an authorized dealer, DIRECTV will upgrade your dish and switch, if required, move any receivers and add second lines for any dual tuners at no charge.

You must be looking at the wrong thing because the HR20-700 is still a pre-order, not in stock. You can't pay extra for shipping since it's free shipping anyway and since it's pre-order there is nothing to pay extra for. I think you may have bought a different receiver instead.

What auction? Robert and Value Electronics is a store, not e-Bay.
http://www.valueelectronics.com/
Down just a bit is the HR20
Says" Pre-order sale price $299
Free shipping No sales tax No deposit No charge till we ship
ValueElectronics's DIRECTV HR20-700 advance order offer"

Obviously we have a disconnect and it doesn't really matter in the grand scheme of things.

EDIT: Perhaps you are actually talking about the e-Bay auction (nothing to do with Robert) and in that case I think we can all predict you are not getting an HR20 shipped to you in 1-3 days. I would be very suprised. e-Bay is a rip off anyway, I never have trusted it.

Could someone from this forum or D* please put a definitive on this?

I'm sort of curious as to how it works when you get one from a retailer as opposed to getting one direct.
I saw another post where D* had given the person a rebate and discounted programming even though the unit was purchased from VE.
I guess that since all 4 of mine are owned (including a 10-250), I'm curious of how it works with the lease aspect or, if there is actually an option to own instead of lease, how it affects what you get in the way of support or whatever.

Sorry guys, at 4:29 PM ESt today DIRECTV sent a memo to its distributors stopping all shipments. The new national release date is now 9/13/06.

Today our FL fullfillment warehouse had already packed 30 of our orders and they were pulled back at the last moment before UPS came for their daily p/u, the balance of our large allocation has already been scheduled for delivery tomorrow morning at 10:30 AM. As of this moment they can not be shipped either.

I'm not sure if we will be able to ship sooner, but by Tuesday, 9/5/06, all 12 of our fullfillment branches will be stocked and ready to ship.

Any and all charges that were made were fully refunded immediately at 4:30 PM EST today. So if you see a charge the credit will also be posted hopefully on the next line item of your credit card statement, but certainly on the same statement.

Sorry about this false alarm, everything was going ahead of schedule till the last moment of the UPS pick-up.

If we are not permitted to ship earlier than 9/13 at least our nationwide 12 warehouse simultaneous distribution will ensure the fastest possible in-hand date to all of our customers.

I assume one of the reasons for this small delay is to give engineering time to enable more features for us to download upon activation.
