Ok, Heres the Deal.

I use to install Directv for a few months, but never got real serious with installs. Mainly the standard 4 room set up with a dvr here and there..Never had a major issue with installing it..Self taught I guess you could say...I know I know that's why I probably need some help now...Anyways, When I got it, I set it up and had 2 D10's and 1 DVR No multi switch needed. Then I added a DVR, so then I got a multiswitch...Boss hooked my up with the DVR R10's and the perfect 10 5 x 8. NO problems for about 9 months, then I moved...Set up at new house, wired with all new RG6 and Snap and seal Fittings...NO problems, then the leaves on the trees starting filling in, so I moved it over and up...I have great signal on 95% of the transponders and all 101 110 119 have signals ranging from 80 to 99 on most everything. The local channels on all receivers with or with out the multiswitch go out from time to time...So I called DTV and 75 minutes later and 4 tier support angents if you will, tried to tell me it was the dish set up wrong not good viewing in the sky yaddaaa yaddda yaddaaa, UNTIL I told them all the transponder reading on all 3 satallites from all receivers...THEY WERE STUMPED....So they set an appt to fix the problem and there I got to wait for 3 days...So the morning of the scheduled date, I found a new 4 LNB to put on the dish and see if that did anything...Wow the D10's started working, the DVR's had to be reset thru the guided set up and so forth but I didnt do that then....Then the guy shoows up(with his trainee) which was fine. They said I need to go thru set up and He stood by while I did that and all was working....Sign here he said...He threw me an extra LNB (IN case I needed It) Such a kind guy...Until I got my bill with a $70 service call fee, So now I'm hoping I can get some answers without the Large fee that did fix the problem for about 2 hours....Now it doesnt work Again...Great signal strength and all with new dish and new 4 lnb with a working 1 year old 5 x 8 multiswitch....I'm stumped...However I can go and switch the wires around on the lnb or the sat inputs from dish either or and get it to work sometimes just by undoing them and hooking the wires back up...I guess I need to know if somehow there is a special sequence for the wires on the multiswitch cause i notince 13V and 18V SAT A AND B>>>>Any answers would be much appreciated...Cause I just dont think Directv techs and the trainees have a clue(well the ones that come out here so I do not want to keep sending them Back here if they cant help....I'll go BROKE!!! THANKS FOR YOUR TIME AND Hope it wasn't tooooooooooo long winded of a story...Email Address is Jesscjames@bellsouth.net:D :D :D :D :D :eek2:

What type of dish did they just install? I'm not aware of a "4 LNB dish". Find your dish here, and verify that you're using a compatible multiswitch ....

Also, you didn't provide your city. Do you know which satellite provides your local channels? Are you sure no trees or anything are blocking your dish's view of that satellite?

Hi,

Thanks for a quick response...There are trees but I have great signal reading on the transponders that Dtv tells me the locals use....SAT A B C have all great signlas....I am in JEsup GA, which is SE GA and correct zip code and all is inputted in guided set up...The multi switch is a perfect 10 (5 x 8) and it is an oval 3 LNB with 4 port multiswitch in the end of it(at the end of the Arm)which points skyward!!! SORRY about the 4 LNB i was getting confused....THANKS!!!

It dosn't matter which wires connect where between the dish and the switch.

Since you paid your loot and the problem wasn't resolved, another trip should't cost anything. Once the tech signs the work order he's guaranteeing the equipment is installed correctly and the fault is fixed. Call D* back an go through it again till they get it right.

When the locals arn't working an you switch to one of those channels does it search for satellite or do something else?

Heres whats weird I do selt system test on the receivers both D10's and the R10 DVR's and the D10 says OK on all Satallites 101(A) 119(B) 110(C) and tuner is OKthen it aquires info from the sat and everything works perfectly except the locals and
The channels actually goes black and sometimes it says at the bottom of the screen...."Call Directv for asst channels not purchased EXT 721"

DTV says channels are purchased and everything should be working according to these readings from sat All receivers have worn out the reset buttons I think!!!

Anyways after reading some of the probs I dont know if it s the distance of over 100 feet from dish to multiswitch or faulty lnb's or maybe i have a LOCAL FORCE FIELD over my property!!!!WHO KNOWS!!!! THANKS AGAIN!!!!

Hi! The ext 721 indicates a problem with the receiver and its authorizations. Sometimes there is a problem with the hardware, either the box or the installation, or, most of the time, Directv needs to resend the auths to each box.

I read over the list of things you have done to fix the problem, and I realized that:

Since you moved, it may also be a problem with the way the last rep input your new address. This can cause problems like ext 721 with the local channels.

I used to be a tier II tech support agent. I recommend the following:

1) Call directv and get a real person (even customer service can resend auths)
2) Have them carefully update and verify your exact SERVICE address.
3) Tell them your receivers keep getting 721 on locals, and request they resend the authorizations on all your receivers.

Now, give them a minute or two to do this, the system only lets agents "hit" one box at a time :D

Make sure you are doing all of this within 90 days of the service call that cost you $70, because that is your warranty period on that service call if anything else goes wrong. IF updating the SERVICE, repeat, SERVICE address and resending authorizations to each box doesn't fix the issue with the locals going to ext 721, then call back, and SPECIFICALLY ask for a tier II tech support agent. You will be transferred to that department straight away if you get a live person first.

The reason you should ask for a tier II agent is because you have DVR's, and some if not most of the tier I tech agents, who should know better, will see you have a DVR, and go "Oh, a dvr!!!! I can't handle THAT!!" when the issue is not a DVR issue per se, its an authorization/install issue. This way, you don't waste your time dinking with "transfer to tier I/transfer to tier II" and waste a whole afternoon.

Hope that helps.

Umm Wrong

101 sat make sure
Transponders 1,2,3,6,15,16,29,30,31,32,

119 sat
26,27

110 sat
all of them

and use the signal meter screen on the D10 not the initial first screen where it automatically loads

and if you are missing signal from any of them you will have to narrow down the cause since the lnb has been replaced could actually be your multiswitch but then again you hae to narrow down the issue and also if you do want someone back out there its going to be at no charge because any install or service appt has a 90 day warranty

Uhm, I'm right.

If he moved, the person at Directv who made the changes could have inputed the SERVICE address incorrectly, or put at least the zip code in wrong. The fields that Directv software has to make the changes can cause this, as it is largely browser based.

That is why I suggested, since he stated it is the LOCALS only, and they get a 721 message, not a 771 or searching for sattelite message, that he

1) get his SERVICE address updated to exact correctness by Directv
2) have them resend the authorizations.

I know he has his locals from the 119 (since he has the oval 3 dish and no second dish) and there COULD STILL BE AN ISSUE WITH THE CABLING OR MULTISWITCH PER MY POST, but I have seen several times the EXACT problem he is describing, and I was the umpteenth tech/CSR the customer had called in about. He is describing a problem I have seen before when the local channels are from another sat as the main channels. If his SERVICE address is not corrected and then all authorizations resent to each box, then tech troubleshooting is NOT, repeat NOT complete.

Did you even READ my post????
