After reading posts from other members in my area(S.F. Bay area ) I called DirecTV and asked to talk to a retention rep. When I was connected to the rep I explained that
I have been told others have had their HR20 installed by DirecTV and wanted to set up
an appointment. I was told that was not possible because there are no units available.

I asked to talk to supervisor. When he came on I went thru story again and also asked about 19.95 price. Said he never heard any deals other than 399.95 and he did not know when I can get install. He said that no installs have been done outside of L.A. area. I told him to go to this list and get back to me.

Is it just me or others having trouble ? If any of you know the name of a retention rep that knows whats up please let me know. I have been a DirecTV customer for almost
ten years with 2 accounts. I spend over $200.00 a month with them Maybe its time to go to cable.

I just got off the phone with what I assume was retention. I had been transfered 4 times after calling the A list number. All but one of the regular CSRs were very short with me. I told one I was upset at this and wanted to terminate my service. I guess where I ended up was retention.

Anyway, long story short, they can not order the HR20s at this time outside of LA. I am convinced she is telling the truth. She said if anyone else is ordering them through D*, that they are either getting the H10-250 or it is going to be shipped later in the month when the national rollout occurs. She said LA was the only area where you can get one now - as per the computer. When I told her BEach audio has lots in stock she said she believed they were an LA based outfit and that was why they had them. She assumed VE had or will have them though a special agreement, but she could not order one. She could order an upgrade HD DVR but could not guarantee it would be the HR20.

BUT she said if I could order one through Best Buy, then she would give me discounts and credits on my bill to off set the cost of the $399 Best Buy price. So I received $20 off my premier package for 6 months, free HD package for 6 months, waived the Superfan cost and a $240 credit for the remainder of the Best Buy cost. I was happy with that and agreed to it (carries an additional 2 year committment).

My only thought is I can get it from Value Electronics for $299 or from Beach Audio for $249, or BB for $399. Heard good things about VE and don't know anything about Beach Audio. Beach is showing immediate availablilty and VE does not show immediateavailability when you add the HR20 to the cart. But the deals are there if you get to the right person.

On a side note, while my account was updating in the computer, I told her I was very tempted by E*'s HD offerings. I said they are kicking D*'s butt right now. She was very silent. I said I have been with D* for over 10 years and did not want to leave but they are really behind. She said she had a briefing this week on that very issue and they went over plans for what D* has in store. This part is a bit depressing.

She enthusiastically said that once the new sats are launched, D* has plans to add a lot of "National" channels (and she knew the difference between locals and nationals). But she said the sats will be launched over the next 9 months and ready for broadcast in 9-12 months. I said that's a year. She said she knows but it will be worth the wait. I said I hope so cause at my age a year is a long time.

Anyway, sorry for the rambling but I thgouht I would share this. Just need to fugure out where to order it from.

I ordered mine from VE this afternoon. Free shipping and no sales tax. At Best Buy if you were to get one you would have tax added to it and shipping (If ordered online) which would take that over $400.

I guess the options are BB/VE which seem to have to wait until the official national release date, or Beach Audio in California which has them in stock and is offering to ship immediately. I guess if any problems arise with the unit purchased from any retail source, D* is the one that takes care of the problem. So its a matter of getting one in a week or two weeks. Decisions, Decisions.

Thats correct any problems would be taken care of by D* its just a matter of how long you wanna wait.

I ordered some cables a few years back, no problems, quick delivery. Not quite a major purchase, but they have been around awhile. I would order from them again. ....This sounds way too much like an Ebay rating.

Still haven't got anyone at DTV to admit that a $1995 deal is possible. Ill keep trying but I wonder if it realy is for the HR20 or only for the HR10.

I will keep calling till they either give it to me or put out a contract to have me killed!!!

Sorry should have been $19.95. They have me so mad I can't push the right buttons. As screwed up as the Retention dept is I kind of feel like I'm back in the Marine Corps and back in the nam. Never got a straight answer there either.

I called DTV earlier today and got $19.95 deal with 2-year commitment. It is to arrive on 9/7/06! If they don't bring a HR20 I am to refuse delivery and cll back for re-order.

:D :hurah: :p

That's what they told me also if they bring the wrong the unit. In all probability you won't get the extra line run either at that time because the installer will not get paid unless they complete the install which would include the unit.

It's true that not everyone at DTV knows what's going on; to the point that they told me not to believe what you read in the Forums!!! Bottom line is this. In NY if you are in a lease agreement, they will swap out for $0.00 plus $19.95 delivery charge. If you bought your old receiver outright, you're negotiation skills come in play. I got a $250 credit for the HR20, 5 LNB dish and relocation of my HR10-250. Out of pocket cost $149.

Good luck to all!!!

Got my order placed this morning for 19.95 deal. Plus a few diff pkg credits. All good for me. And they are moving my HR10-250 to the other HD and running the OTA cable to it (already have 2 sat feeds there).

So for $20 ... I figure that is cheap for the cable run.

Oh yeah - scheduled for Fri 9/8. Also told to refuse if not HR20.

I don't know about that Vinny. While it's true, I'm sending back one of my currently leased H20s, I am doing so because I am declining to keep it active after my HR20 install. It didn't seem like part of the requirement for my s/h only deal

From what I recall, he offered me the deal before I declined to relocate the H20.

My CSR told me when I ordered that they opend up for lease outside LA on August 31 but only to cities that have HD Locals.

Wider rollout is coming very soon but she didn't know a date.

I ordered one through DTV today for Atlanta, but I couldn't get it until I said "you sent me an email on 9/1 at 7:01PM saying it was available." bingo. I didn't get a great pricepoint. They matched VE price, but I just want locals in HD already.

EDIT: Install is for 9/8, so they are rolling out their units here before the authorized dealers are allowed.

if everyone is so worried that they will get the hr10-250 instead of the hr20 and if everyone is getting so upset that when they call they cant order the hr20, um, why dont you just wait a few weeks or up to a month? what's the big deal? i mean the ota tuners arent active anyway, and, it seems there are several bugs in the software that are gonna be updated within the next month or so. so i think for several reasons waiting would be in everyone's best interest. i mean, i'm one of those who just have to have every new piece of equipment as soon as it comes out, but in this case i'm gonna wait a month or maybe a bit longer.
