2 minute later: Oops, wrong forum. Earl, Please move. Thanks.
Well I took a few minutes to call retention and see if I could get the HR20. No surprises....It was a no go.
I asked a couple of the same questions all the rest of you guys asked. When, How much, etc.
When is sometime this month.
And I know a few people are gong to love this one...How much. Well, we don't know for sure yet. It could be 399.00 but looking at your account your on our A-list and have been with us for 11 years, "I know I would take care of you when the time comes" she says.
I thanked her for her time and said I would call back in a couple of weeks. Oh well.

Funny. I am in the Washington DMA. I called on Friday night at about 8:15. I called customer retention at 800-824-9081 the first time instead of customer support. I was on the phone around 45 minutes with a very knowledgeable and polite CSR. She stated that she was familiar with the HR20 and explained a lot of stuff we already knew because we read this forum. She did not know about the Best Buy email but seemed to believe me as I read it to her.
The CSR did what she called a fake order to see if I could order the system in my area. Once she did the order she said I could order it. I placed the order and she told me it would be $399 plus $20 handling. I said ok and then politely complained about having spent $999 last April on the HR10-250. She explained to me that all electronics drop in value over time, etc, etc. I explained that I paid full price and that I spend alot over the year with Sunday Ticket and Center Ice plus HBO. She then said she could give me a $250 credit. I went with that. I then got her to add in my Superfan credit that had not been added. She asked when I wanted the install done and I said ASAP. She then said "How about this Sunday?". I said sure.
Before we hung up she clarified with me again that it was the HR20 and that I should not let the installer take any of my old boxes with them. She also stated that I would NOT be able to use OTA on the new box (which I already knew).
The installer showed up on Sunday as scheduled and of course did not have the correct hardware. He did not know the HR20 was out. He called his manager and was informed they had no stock of the HR20. He then called DTV and argued with whoever he was talking with. They told him he wouldn't have stock for about two more weeks. We then rescheduled for the 25th. This wasn't the installers fault. Seemed like a nice guy.
Bottom line is that DTV should have known that a) they shouldn't sell to me or b) they did not have stock. Hopefully I will get this thing in 3 weeks but I am not holding my breath.
Somebody up there hates me. DirecTV.

Frustating as hell isn't it. I wasn't expecting to be able to get it anyway. She mentioned the Best Buy option, but I figured I'd just wait.
I'm sorry you lost some time in this.
As painful as is it sometimes dealing w/ D*, I really can't complain about the CSR's as far as being being polite and what have you. They may not always give you the same anwers everytime but at least when they misinform you they do it politely....IMO. I'll keep trying.

Always try to ask which company will be doing the install and get their phone number, call them up and confirm they have stock, that way no surprises...

I was finally able to order the HR20.
I have two HR20's being installed on the 26th.
I'm paying 99.00 for both of them. I also got Showtime for 6 months. I didn't push for anything else. I'm in the middle of the 10.00 off TC anf 5.00 off the HD package.
I can't complain.

I heard of the possible shortage of HR20's. So I called Advanced Technologies at 305-xxx-xxxx in West VA. They said they were out of stock from there Chantilly office but expecting more today (9/25). I have a scheduled install for tomorrow 9/26 from 8-12.
I don't think the timing on this thing is going to work in my favor.:nono2:
What do ya think.
