View Full Version : Available Long Island and CT
The hr20 is available at BB stores all over LI and CT. I ordered one online, and picked it up at the store today.
Well last Tuesday, 9/5 I was told from Halsted Communications, the DirecTV contractor that the local Ronkonkoma office did not have any HR20s in stock so I rescheduled for 9/23. However this morning it's reportedly in stock and they pushed up the appointment to this coming Saturday, 9/16. I had placed this order though D*, 9/1.

Well, I hope they make it to you. I was scheduled for 9/9, 8-12, and at 10:14am
I get a call from Halsted telling me "We can't install today. We don't know if we will have enough installers until that day". Well, I am in Nassau county, and I will check back to see if either one of us gets an install.
I may get delayed as well as I asked for an installer not convicted of any sex crimes given the recent rape of the 16 y/o girl in Uniondale by a twice before convicted sex offender flashing a "Direct TV ID badge", but of course DTV uses
outside installers. Halsted is one of the bigger ones. It appears you just don't know who you are letting in to your home. So if you have a daughter or wife, try to be home during the install.
Also, I just checked bb.com, and it indicates Ship (coming soon), Pickup (Coming soon), as it has for the past month.
Cheers
No question, Haltsted is frustrating. In August, they missed 2 follow-up appointments for an incomplete install on consecutive days, resulting in a $20 instant credit and $10 off my bill for 12 months.
On both days, they continued to string me along, throughout the day promising that the appointment would be me. They finally came on the 3rd day.
On the fourth day, an installer called from them to confirm my appointment!!??.
I told him how they came yesterday and missed the previous 2 appointments.
He asked, "What did they do?"
I told him how they changed my multi-switch to mpeg-4 compatible (WB68).
He replied "Oh, well can you me a favor and read me back one the number your access cards to confirm.?"
I said that I didn't feel like doing that, as I was ready to walk out my door and frankly I was suspicious about his intentions. (trying to get reimbursed for a job that was already done?)
One more Halsted story, on Aug 4., when the AT9 was first installed they called me at 10:40 and said that they need to extend the window from 8-12 'till 2 because the installer was running late.
I said ok and no later 11:15, the installer arrived.
They are very inconsistent, inaccurate and poor communicators. You usually need 45 minutes hold time to get through to the Regional office in order to get that level of service. Then they call the local office with the secret phone number known only to the Regional folks (and Homeland Security) who can't get in touch with the installer. "He must be in an area where there is no cell service". Yeah sure.
Rant over. Thanks.
PS You're right, about the sex offender issue. I think you need to exercise caution anytime you have a service call, be it oil company, handyman, satellite installer, whatever. I like to be home anytime those guys come.
