View Full Version : Tivo makes some strange statements recently

Some people have been asking, "Why switch from the HR10 to the HR20?".

I personally own several Tivo DVRs and love their interface and simple menu system.

But recent statements posted on the pvrblog.com website leaves me scratching my head.

Why would Tivo purposely state their dislike of satellite customers? I can switch out my Tivo DVRs at anytime, but I have chose to keep them because Tivo has treated me so well.

I suppose I am being dumped...time to switch out my Tivos.

Examples?

Edit: OK, I guess it's the ad targeted to cable execs? Well, yes, it's never been a secret that the Series 3 was built as a cable box. It has to be that way, because the satellite companies won't open up their systems and the FCC didn't mandate anything like CableCARD for satellite. And the DT only works with cable because it only controls one STB (and expects to get most of the channels in analog for the second tuner).

Meanwhile, Echostar has stolen their IP (I won't even say "allegedly" since it's been decided in court), and DirecTV has dumped them and are currently marketing their toy DVRs using terms such as "revolutionary", "finally", and "at last" (as if the last six years never happened). So actually I think a good *&%^ you to satellite is waranted (and I'm just about ready to get in line behind TiVo for that).

I couldn't find anything on that site that sounds like what you're talking about.

Besides, what would this have to do with the new D* HD DVR?
