Just watched the two parter season ender for Star Trek the Next Generation on Spike tv today. It still holds up well against any of the movies in my opinion. OF course time travel was involved just like in Voyager's ending two parter episode . Does anyone remember what the final episode of the Origional Star Trek show was?

I believe it was Turnabout Intruder.

I believe it was Turnabout Intruder.

Yep... that's it. Oddly enough though... the next-to-last episode did involve time travel through a "magic" portal on a planet that was about to be hit by a huge asteroid/comet.

The original Star Trek kind of ended with a whimper rather than a bang as it was cancelled without any thought to letting the creators craft a decent final episode to go out on.

Can you go into a short synopsis of this episode? I really can't remember it right now.

I do know that I love the episode that was on tonight on TV Land with Joan Collins in the 1930's and Kirk and Spock had to let her die to keep history perserved or let her live and then the future would be changed. Cool episode that still holds up well with the drama and Kirk was actually very believable in his pain.

I also like the Menagerie too. Was the pilot episode origionally and then it got retooled when they went with Kirk over Pike for the captain of the show.

HDNet is running a great special called "Mind Meld: Voyage of a Lifetime" right now. Its an hour long sit down chat between Nimoy and Shatner about the series as well as lots of inside information about their personal lives.

Highly worth watching!

I've seen it before... and watched it again just now. I agree it is interesting, even watching for a second time. I was lucky to notice it coming on this afternoon as usually when it has been on in the past I miss the first 10 minutes or so because I haven't been expecting it.

Oh yes, I remember that one now. Yes, they definately didn't know that they were going to be cancelled when they ended on that episode. TV networks don't have much patience for Sci-Fi shows as evidenced by the crop of shows last year on each network that were cancelled . At least Star Trek got 3 years . Ironic it ended right before the moon landing in 1969.

From SF Gate/AP:

'Star Trek' Marks 40th AnniversaryCue the iconic theme music: Forty years ago, on September 8, 1966, "Star Trek" lifted off into TV and cultural history. Over the subsequent decades, the sci-fi adventure series has amassed millions of fans and emerged as a relentless entertainment empire.

Stars William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy sat down recently with the Associated Press and recalled "The Man Trap," the episode that would kick off the show's three-year prime-time run.FULL ARTICLE HERE (http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/n/a/2006/09/10/entertainment/e120943D82.DTL)
