Well the title says it all. I have a tripod on my roof so the 3 lnb can get over the neighbor's trees. Can they mount that big daddy 5 lnb on the roof tripod as well? It is anchored down really well but I heard that 5 lnb weighs a lot more.

The HR20 doesn't need the 5LNB. You only need it if you want to receive the MPEG4 channels. It will work perfectly fine with the 3LNB.

The 5LNB needs a 2" mast, so you're going to have to put a new mast up.

Yes I want the MPEG 4 channels. I think the mast coming out of the Tri-pod is 1-1.5" galvanized. Whatever the old bubble level was able to fit into. Will the installer hook it up?

Won't be able to attach to the smaller diameter mast. You'll have to put up a bigger one. I believe it is 2" outer diameter.

Should I buy one at the home improvement store or let the installer work his magic?

Hopefully the Tripod will accept the 2" mast.

My installer was going to put it on a pole in the dirt or on the roof. I forced him to put it on the side of the house in the place of the old one. So far so good...thing is a heavy SOB though...
