The highly touted "Internet Revolution" took another major step forward Monday, when Compaq unveiled the breakthrough Compaq Presario 6000, a $4,995 multimedia computer system that enables users to download files containing network-television programs and display them on a computer monitor.

"Imagine watching TV at the click of a mouse, instead of a remote control," Compaq director of product development Bill Welborne said. "With the Compaq Presario 6000 and a few reasonably priced add-ons, you'll never have to watch TV on a television again."

Just thought this might be a good place to ask this question. I have a Compaq Presario 6000, and I just decided to copy my vhs home recordings to dvd and found out the hard way I have no video inputs on this POS. Any suggestions on a cheap video card upgrade or should I stick with a USB Video Capture Device?

Both would work, but generally the PCI/PCIe cards have on-board processing, while the USB devices rely on the CPU for processing. On a slower machine, that can really drag down computer performance, while a faster CPU won't notice as much.

I am pretty sure you could have just started a new thread for your question.

We really frown on bumping ancient threads.

But since the deed is done, I have an HP MCE m1180n and it already had inputs, but the HP hardware would lock up anytime I tried to capture more then 29 minutes of content.

I replaced the capture card with one from Pinnacle. You can find capture cards at any major retailer. You could even possibly find reviews for them at places like CNET.

And if performance is what you want, and your PC is older, I agree that you may want to stick with an internal card and not USB or Firewire.

JasonThus, my long-standing argument for closing "ancient" threads.
