Reuse of Access Card

When I went to activate my HR20, the CSR asked if I wanted to reuse my HR10 card or use the new card, I told her I'd use my current card, but didn't know it would work that way. She said it shouldn't be a problem. Well the unit kept rebooting. Long story short, 1 hour on the phone with level 2 tech support, they elevated it. I got frustrated so I tried taking the access card out and magically it worked. Called back and let them know that I had resolved the issue and what caused it. It's pretty frustrating. . . .:mad: , at least I got it to work. Blame myself a little for letting DTV believe using the old card would work.

So you're using your HR20 without any access card? How can that work?

No, once it didn't boot and asked for the access card, I put in the old one and got a message it was invalid, when I stuck in the virgin card, whalla, it said the access card wasn't authorized for the programs. I think the moral of the story is that sometimes the user knows more than the "experts".

I'm sure that the first level support tech isn't familiar with the HR20 yet, but he should have realized that all the new D* receivers (H20, HR20 and IIRC the R15) require the latest access card, the P12. Using any older access cards and you get the incompatability issues you saw.
