Hi Everyone,
This is my 1st time here I actually got the link from another forum.I'm really impressed with all the info and facts (big thanks to EARL).I have been a DTV customer for about 8 years now, for the last 2+ years I have been using the hr10-200(tivo unit) in my living room connected to my DLP HDTV(I get awesome OTA with it from 2-1 all the way up to 62-1 +) , before that I was using a Ultimate TV dual tuner(that now resides in my bedroom connected to a SD TV). I am a lurker in the HD Forums so I was aware a new DTV Unit DVR was coming out, a few months ago I was having some problem with my old 3lnb dish and called DTV, they came out and offered to swap it out for a new 5lnb dish, believe it is called the AT9. So I have had the new dish for a few awhile now connected to my HR10. I happen to be in BB yesterday here in Cerritos to get some DVDs and was checking out the TV area when I looked down a saw a new box that said DTV Dual tuner DVR, I thought oh cool it's the new box, I have the new dish, the price was way cheaper than I thought it was gonna be $299. I paid over $600 for my Tivo unit, so I figured why not and got it. I get home and decide to read up on it, so I check the forums and, I wasn't ready for all the stuff I read, alot of complaint about no dual tuners switching, or the lack of OTA right now.
Here is what I have decided to do, I am going to replace the Ultimate TV in the back room with the HR20 for now, or until the OTA becomes available. I would like to add that I think that the HR20 work almost exactly like the Ultimate TV does. It seems to have way more in common with that unit(menus, folders,30 sec skip. and the one thing I missed the most and always disliked on the HR10 is when you look at the guide, it shows you what shows are and will be recorded instead of always going to the todo list to remind yourself what shows you are recording that night.).
I'm excited to have them add OTA so it can then become my main unit. I like my HR10 , but it does get annoying at how slow it can be, even compared to the Ultimate TV unit I have which is somewhat old now. Hopeflly they'll add the dual tuner switching at some point, but to be honest I'm not a huge user of that function, so it's not a deal breaker for me. I'm more excited about folders, fast response times, and the abiltilty to see what shows will be recording in the guide.
Sorry for the long intro, but here is my question. In another Forum they say that the reason that the new HR20 doesn't have the dual tuner switching is that because TIVO owns that technology and will not share it, hence the tivo/dish lawsuit. Therefore it seems that that is not something this unit or any future units will have. Is there any truth to that?
