I'm debating getting a HR10-250, but I have a couple questions. I have a SD DirecTivo now.

1) I don't want to remove service from my current DirecTivo. But I don't want to change rooms until I watch most of whats on the box. If I just remove the sat inputs, can I still watch all those stored shows? I'm pretty sure I can, but just making sure.

2) Non-HD stuff on the HR10, like say the Disney channel. I know I can change resolutions (480i, 1080i, etc), but if I leave the Tivo at 720p can the Tivo stretch the picture to fill the screen? Or does it just add the black side bars?

Thanks for the help guys.

Answer to 1, absolutely. You don't need any sat inputs to playback previously recorded material.

Answer to 2, I'm not sure (may be because I have a cold and my brain is running on about 1/3 the normal 2 cylinders). Sorry.

You should be able to, but only for as long as the receiver is active. I have had receivers that I disconnected and didn't use for a while, and when I hooked them back up, they didn't work. I was told at the time that if the receiver doesn't get a DTV signal for a certain number of days, it will deactivate. (Not the same thing as removing it from you bill...DTV will charge you forever even if the receiver goes inactive.) If your DVR deactivates, you will not be able to use it for anything but a paperweight. I called DTV list night with a similar question about the HR20, and they said if the receiver was deactivated, I would not be able to see what was recorded on the DVR. I doubt it would delete stuff, and if you re-activate it, it should find them again, but that won't be fun if you record a lot on the new machine and both tuners are active a lot.

I believe you can set the HR10 to 720p stretch and it will fill the screen with a SD picture, but then I have no way of testing this while I have the HR10, I don't have a HDTV (yet)...

It will stretch, yes.
Actually, there is an aspect button on the remote to "turn on and off" the stretch.

I don't think you can get the HR10-250 anymore - Directv seems to be giving the HR20 now. Unless you purchase it at BB.

But as they said you can stretch the picture - but I hate that. I live with the black bars to the sides of my 60" SXRD and I lived with bars on top and the sides with my 40" tube.
