About 4 months ago, I foolishly left DirecTV for Comcast cable; lured by the promise of discount rates for having both cable tv and internet (DSL not available in my area).

Fast forward to last week when I had had enough of Comcast craptacular service (simply unuseable DVR interface, no dual tuners in this area (old A/B cable system in Plano, Texas with no date for upgrade?? Are you serious?!?) that they neglected to mention at sign up, and a over-inflated bills ($12.99 per month PER DVR) I cam running back to DirecTV. (Oh ya Comcast was migrated to Time Warner a month later too..)

So I take advantage of the crazy good deal they had with NFLST and the $100 off the HD DVR, free standard DVR, and re-sign up.

The installer comes today and replaces my old dish with a fancy new 5-LNB setup and hooks up an HR20 and an R15. They weren't TiVo's but I was willing to give it a shot.

Well, a full day later, the HR20 freezes up and forces a reset about every 60 seconds (yes, I have it out in the open and even tried blowing a fan over it), the R15 freezes up every hour or two, and the lack of dual-buffered tuners (in addition to the other TiVo niceties I had hoped for) have me pretty infuriated.

What is my recourse? Can I demand that they replace the HR20 with the TiVo equivelent? Can I use my old Hughes DTiVo and send the R15 back?

I used to tell people how much better DTV was then Comcast (now Time Warner), but this new equipment is thus far pretty horrid. :(

If you are resetting your HR20 every 60 seconds...
It sounds like a faulty unit, as they as WAY WAY WAY WAY far from anything remotely normal.

And if the R15 is freezing every hour or two.....

Something is seriously going wrong with your setup.
Almost sounds like some type of signal overload on the SAT signas.

, you can "try" to demand them to replace them with TiVo units, but two problems.

1) They are pretty much out of HR10-250's.
2) HR10-250;s are not mpeg-4 and with the conversion in the next year....

There is something wrong with your signal... even the most problamatic systms are not freezing and reseting as much as you are stating.

You can certainly use your old Hughes DTivo... and you could always try to get an HR10-250 via Ebay

Sounds like an installation problem to me or someone is exaggerating the problems just a little. :sure:

Call DirecTV back and the installer will come back out and test the system for you being its only been 2 days.
