I currently have a 2 SDTiVos and 1 regular reciever on my account and I am not in a contract. It ended a few months ago. My friend has a HR10-250 that he is no longer using and I was wondering if it was possible for me to swap my regular reciever for this HDTiVo and not renew my contract.

Thanks,
Leo

You would have to discuss that with a CSR.

Usually no, since you didn't have the HR10-250 on your account before.

Based on your current set up, I would guess you have an oval dish (maybe dual LNB)? If you were to swap to an HR10-250, you would need to at least upgrade to a Phase III (3 LNB) dish to get the full benefit. If that's the case, it would trigger a commitment. I'm not entirely certain, as Earl indicates (alludes to?), that you wouldn't have to agree to a two-year commitment just for activating the HR10-250 on your account.

The last time I added a receiver I was told you had to commit to 1 year whenever a receiver is added. That well could have changed to 2 years with the newer TOS since then.

If you do it and they make you get a new access card (almost certainly will) you might have to remind them at activation that the unit is "customer owned," as the default is now for lease equipment.

I currently have a 3 LNB dish up because we have one Para Todos package to save a few bucks monthly.
I gonna call up DirecTV tonight and see what they say

A one-year commitment is attached to standard definition receivers. Any high-definition or DVR receivers come with a two-year commitment. That's the determining factor for one-year versus two-year.
