View Full Version : HD Dish Installation Problem
I am new to this site and hoping someone can help. I broke down and bought a Samsung LCD HD Television with 1080P capability. I needed to update my older non-HD TIVO unit and I called Directv. They recommneded their new HD DVR and told me I would need a new dish. I have a three story 1930's spanish tiled roof house. I've had two previous Directv dishes on the roof. While I have not been on the roof to see the installation, I believe my last dish was attached to a standpipe. The Directv installer told me (without looking on my roof) that he did not see a way to install this new, bigger HD dish on a tile roof. He suggested that it could not be attached to a standpipe. A few days later, another installer supervisor visited and told me the same thing. He suggested that because of the size of the dish, he was worried about the liability of putting up the dish in a way that could tear part of the roof off in a storm, etc. He couldn't find any other place to put the dish around my property. Is that it? Do I have to give up on having HD from Directv?? Anyone have any advice for some sort of custom or alternative installation?
Seeing we can't see your house and yard how about some pictures if you want us to make any type of guesses.

Are there lots of trees around your house preventing a clear shot at all of the required satellites?
In early October you can use the sun to help you find alternative spots on your house for a multisatellite dish. Read more here ....

The roof is not the only place to mount that dish either.
For example check out the picture in this thread

Thank you. I do have a brick chimney and I suggested it to the installer. One of my previous dishes had been attached that way. I also suggested attaching it to an eve of the roof. He wasn't willing to do either and suggested they would face liability issues for damage to my property in the event of a storm etc. EVEN if I agreed to waive liability.
My house is mostly surrounded by trees which makes the roof the best vantage point. Does anyone make a tripod or some other base that I could build a platform for?
