View Full Version : Time of Shows
On Thursday 9/21 I want to record Deal or No Deal from 8 to 9 and Greys Anatomy from 8 to 9. These are set to record, the problem is I want to record Shark from 9 to 10 and the wonderful R15 tells me that Deal is set to end at 1 minute after 9 and Greys is set to end at 2 minutes after 9. I didn't set this the R15 did! So great, I went in to set Shark to start 2 minutes late and R15 will only let me start a show early but not late! So then I when to end Deal early and again R15 will not let me end a show early it will only let me end a show late! So in other words I hope this new show Shark sucks because I can't record it!
Any ideas???

1) You can't end shows early with any of the DirecTV DVRs (DVR+, or DTivos). It is called negative padding, and most DVRs out there don't let you do that.
2) The "problem" is not the DVRs, but with the networks pulling that crap. They are the ones that run it 1 minute longer.... years past it was to keep you on the channel after the start of a popular show on another... now, I am sure it has partially to do with DVRs
3) Sadly, there is no way around it, other then setting a MANUAL record to go from 9:02 to 10:00 on yoru other channel.
Or do what a lot of have done... hook up a 2nd DVR in the main viewing area, to handle 3 or 4 shows recording at once...
Sorry

The simplist solution, as Earl notes, is to set up a manual record from 9:02-10:00 to record Shark.

You can not set a manual to start late. You can only set a manual to start earlly. So this does not work.

You can set a "manual" to record from a specific start time, to a specific end time. That is a manual record.
You can not set a "single" record to start late or end early.

Or you can set the R15 to record Shark and it will automatically start recording Shark when Deal or no Deal ends. Or you can place Shark higher on the prioritizer and it will record all of Shark and won't record the last minute of Deal or No Deal. The nice thing about the R15 and conflicts, it will still record the parts of shows that don't conflict even thought there is a conflict symbol on the recording. The R15 is smart enough to know it can't record the whole show so it just records what it can.
