View Full Version : B Converter Part
Hello All,
I got 2 boxes in my HR20-700. Can someone tell me what I need this for?
Have my HR20-700 hooked up but not sure if these parts are required.
Thanks
Kenny

They'll be needed once the other 2 new satellites go up next year. You don't need them right now, but hook them up anyway so you don't lose them. The HR20 will function fine with them connected now.

Thanks for the quick reply back, but dumb question, where do I hook it up?
Thanks again

One more question, when the 2 new satellites go up, do I need to get a new Dish? Being reading about the AT9 dish, but not sure if that is needed now.
Do you think DTV will give a free upgrade since I have the HR20-700?
Thanks

They connect to the back of the HR20 on each of the sat inputs. On each one there should be a sticker indicating which side needs to connect to the HR20 and which needs to connect to the incoming sat lines. The manual should have detailed instructions how to connect the B-Band Convertors.

They go between your HR20 and the coax in the back of the unit. Screw them into the SAT1 and SAT2 connectors on the HR20 and screw your coax into them.

New dish (5LNB AT9) will be needed to receive the signal from the new sats. This includes the last 2 sats that were launched. To get any of the local HD channels (CBS, NBC, FOX, ABC) you'll need the new dish. I see you're from NJ too so you can probably get the MPEG2 feeds of these same channels in the 80s range. These will most likely be shut off in the future. All future new HD channels will be MPEG4 and require the 5LNB dish.
D* will install the new dish for free since you already have the HR20-700. They installed mine for free after I got my H20-600.
All,
Thank you very much for all the information. I will now run up stairs an install my parts and will call D* and schedule a day for them to upgrade my dish. Maybe they can run a few more lines for free for me :-)
Thank you all again.
