Is there any possible way to get the National Geographic channel without moving up in packages? I don't want to spend $10 per month more when all I want is 1 channel extra.

You'd be surprised how many ala carte channels are $10/mo.

NGC is good, but now worth $10 alone. See if you can justify it with some other channels in AT180.

AT 180 has great documentary and educational channels. Now if we could had more time, I think its worth 10 bucks a month more.

I'm with you. I didn't want the full 180 channels, but my wife said that she only watches the Dog Whisperer, so we had to have the HD Gold. It's an extra $10 per month, but would have been nice for an ala carte option.

I would pay $ 10 for NGHD, STARZ HD, HBO HD and SHOW HD all together in a package...:)

It could be worse - if you had D*, you couldn't get it at all (at least it's not listed on their website under HD).

When I went from AT 120, to AT 180 I thought I would be watching the NGC alot. I have not seen one interesting show on there yet (my opinion). One channel now I can't live without is Discovery Science Channel. The reason I went from AT 120 to AT 180 is NHL on OLN. Not to mention, you get the Movie Channel and Extra, plus the Encore lineup. I'm sure you'll find more channels to watch if you spend $10 more to get NGC.

I think NG is one of the best channels. I'm currently subscribe to AEP+HD~splurged for a year with the new big screen. But now that it's going to be an extra $10/month (total of $120/month... that's $23,040 in 16 years~or enough to buy your kid a pretty decent car in that time!)... Time to cut back. Also looking at DirecTV since they carry NG in their basic package (although not in HD).

When Dish first went into HD service, they had DiscoveryHD a la carte for $7.99 per month. When they later had the $9.99 HD pack that included DiscoveryHD, ESPNHD, HDNet, HDNet Movies, and later TNTHD that was a better bargain than just the $7.99 DiscoveryHD.

For people that like to blame ESPN for high costs, it should be worth noting that the $2 more for that original HD pack covered multiple channels and that it was DiscoveryHD by itself that was $7.99 so that seemed to be the biggest culprit in the original priced HD pack from Dish.

So fast-forward now... IF it were possible to get National Geographic HD as an a la carte channel, it would not surprise me if they wanted $7-$9 for it as a standalone channel.
