Well got my HR20-700 today, after reading on this board I was expecting the worst. So far its not that bad, of corse the pictures great on the HD channels. The GUI is just different than a Tivo not the end of the world. One thing that I noticed so far is that when you set up a "season pass" there is no confirmation or options for the recordings like how long to keep and such, also if you search and find a show how do you "season pass" from that screen I only see the option to record that episode not the record all option?? I have only messed with it and hour or so.
Thanks

Again the Tivo thing... geeze... remember many of us have never seen/used Tivo! :)
I am assuming a Tivo "season pass" is the same as "Series link"?... (Meaning 'record all new episodes of a show').... to get this you just hit the 'R" (record) button TWICE... you get one orange R the first push.. and then get a 'triple R' icon after the second press... this is series link... you can get this in the guide or in title search... or when manually going to series link and setting it there... stinking hard to explain all of this... you just need to discover it.

Sorry you have never used a tivo.

Find the program in the guide, hit select and set up the seasonpass/series link that way. It gives you the option for first run/all, how many episdodes to keep, start & stop times, etc.

Since Slyster was so helpfull with his "Tivo envy" comment, maybe this will help. :D
To manage Series Lists (SPs) go into MYVOD (the Now Playing) by pressing LIST. Then hit the YELLOW button to pull up the To Do list. Then press the left arrow button to get to the panel with ToDo, History and such. Go down to Prioritizer and press SELECT.
To set one up....for a currently playing show go to the guide by pressing the GUIDE button twice. Then go to the channel containing the program you want a Series List (Season Pass) for and press the INFO button. Then go down to RECORD and press SELECT. You then get the single recording screen. Now press the RED or GREEN button to go to the Series Link screen. Then press the left arrow button to get to the details that it only takes a couple of button presses to get to on Tivos. You can now control First Run/Repeats (FR doesn't always work), KAM, KU and the padding.
For a show in the future go to the guide by pressing the GUIDE button twice. Then press SELECT for Record and follow the steps above starting with the RED/GREEN button presses.
See how intuitive this new common UI is that DTV has spent at least an hour and a half designing?
Now, Slyster if you have an easier way to setup a SL and change the defaults for the SL as dixoncider was asking, please post it as this is the only way I'm aware of to accomplish this and I'd also be interested.
Oh, also, don't both asking why one needs to press GUIDE--GUIDE to get to the Guide. That one's been beat to death!!!
I got my new box yesterday. So far I have been impressed. I am finding my way around the system rateher well. So far, shows have been recorded, but I haven't had time to watch.
I moved the HR10 to the bedroom and kept the TIVO going to record the shows simultaneously, since some are/have experienced dropped or frozen recordings. I haven't seen it yet.

wolfpack Thanks for the reply. Sounds much easier than the tivo. So you can not search out a show and then do a series link from there, you have to find the show a week away in the guide? I dont even know what night show are on anymore, after five years of tivo who cares. Once there all there it wont matter again. Thanks again for your reply. Ok no bitchin about the guide, guide thing and also the dual buffers that I already miss. The picture is killer on the hd channels.

Yes you can do it from the search. You have to highlight the show and then press select. This will take you to the record page. Press select on record and then press the red or green button to tab to series link and then set your preferences and select record.
As an aside note. If you want to change the defaults for the series links. Press menu while on the record page and select Record Defaults. You can change the defaults for episode type(first run, repeats or both), keep at most, keep until, start and stop. This will then default any series links setup after the changes to those prefrences.

Ya yes, I forgot the SEARCH method.
Press MENU and then down arrow to SEARCH then press SELECT. If you want to search on Title, select that, then fill out the title as you would on your old Tivo. Except, remember to include "THE" or "A" as the R15/HR20 requires the exact title. Once you find your show you can select that show. Then you must right arrow over to pick one of the episodes displayed. Remember at this point that the episodes displayed will be for all channels on DTV, not just the ones you receive. So for a CBS Network show you will see your local channels and also see the national CBSE and CBSW and HD versions of those. So when you're selecting the program you want to create a SL off of, make sure you select the correct episode and channel combination. Oh, I also forgot that at this point you should have a printed copy of your DTV channels as the R15/HR20 only displays the channel number and doesn't let you know the channel name so you need to know which channel numbers you receive.
For example, I just searched on CSI: Miami and I have episodes listed for channel 268 (A&E), 381 (CBSW) and my local CBS channel.
So now you select the episode and channel you want and then will have the Record selection that gives you can follow in my previous examples.
One other caveat to add. If you by chance would like to record a show such as CSI: Miami you can only record if off one channel on the R15. I'm not sure on the HR20, they may have fixed it there. But on the R15 you can only create a SL for one show on one channel. You want all showings of CSI: Miami on all channels, get your Tivo back.

Wouldn't setting an AutoRecord for "CSI: Miami" record all instances of it regardless of channel? The AutoRecord option in the search would seem pretty useless to me if you had to limit it to a specific channel.

You would have to start with a KEYWORD search on "CSI MIAMI" as there is no ":" character to select. Have you tried that search on an HR20? I just tried it on my R15. Searching keyword on "CSI MIAMI" returned no results. Searching on "CSI" returned 27 hits of which some where CSI: Miami. Am I trying to say the KEYWORD search is mucked up? Yes. Don't for a minute start depending on KEYWORD searches, at least on the R15. Maybe the HR20 works better. To find out do your own KEYWORD on "CSI MIAMI" and see if you get any hits. If you don't try just CSI or MIAMI. You'll get results from those but not from "CSI MIAMI".

Ah, gotcha. Sounds like it's time for special characters to be selectable in there.
I just started thinking, the # keys on the remote have letters. Is it possible to press these like you do on a cell phone to type a text message to do a search?

HR20-700 Remote Malfunction
I have had the HR20-700 for two days now. The remote control fails everytime I turn off connected devices. I had the HR20 connected with both HDMI and component cables. I have since disconnected the HDMI when I saw on this site that some issues seem to be related to that connection. After the peripheral devices and/or the HR20 have been turned off for more than a few minutes, and then restarted, the HR20 doesn't respond to the remote.
The HR20 responds to the front panel controls but not the remote. The only way to recover the remote operation has been a hard reset of the system by unplugging the unit for 30 seconds, plugging it back in and going through the "acquiring satellite" process. Then the remote works normally until I shut things off again. The HR20-700 is current with the 0xcc update. I called D* and they recorded the problem but had no solution.
I have tried to just power down the system from the front panel and have used the red button reset without success. The unplug reset so far is all that works. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
