View Full Version : Q on LNBs for 2nd Dishes

If one is using a Dish 500 with two legacy LNBs and legacy 21 switches, can a 2nd dish for side satellite (65/148) be added with a DishPro LNB if both receivers are DishPro receivers (501s) ?

Can one then feed both the receivers with one RG6 wire, and if so, what switches would work ?

In other words, can one mix DishPro LNBs on some dishes with Legacy LNBs on other dishes, and if so, what switches will work with both at the same time?

If not, will Dish replace all LNBs and switches for customers who have legacy LNBs and switches and need to add another dish for locals on a side satellite, when they are forced to provide locals for distant customers as per the settlement text ? Or does dish still have legacy LNBs and switches in stock ?

Reading some previous comments, my guess is that they would send an installer who would install a side satellite dish with a DishPro LNB and then replace the existing LNBs with DishPro LNBs and replace the switch with a DP34.

Thanks for any light you can shed on this topic !

PS Please don't make the usual incorrect comment "Your locals are not on a separate dish" - instead please look at:

and

where you can see the several dozen markets that are on the side satellites.

Adapters are available to interface legacy receivers with DishPro switches/LNBs and legacy receivers can be connected to DishProPlus switches. But the LNB and switch network must be ALL DP or ALL legacy.

So the next question is whether Dish stocks legacy LNBs or would they instead replace the entire legacy LNB/switch system with DishPro - especially when the receivers are all DishPro ?

I'd replace with DishPro - but I'm not E* and can't speak for them. :)

For only 2 receivers, the easiest solution would be the DishPro Plus Twin on the Dish500 and a DP Dual on the side dish. See Instructions for Adding 61.5° (http://ekb.dbstalk.com/Adding%2061-5%20dish.htm) and DishPro Technology (http://ekb.dbstalk.com/217) for more info.

See, this is why I ask questions here !

I looked at the DishProPlus technology, but it looked like it was only needed for Dual Tuner Receivers.

But, the DishProPlus Twin looks ideal - no external switch needed for the side satellite slot, and also the bonus that if one of my receivers dies, I can temporarily hook up my old 4000 without having to have a Legacy Adapter on hand.

Many thanks to Bobabird for the suggestion.

I hope that Dish will cover the cost of such changes for people who need them for mandated LIL in the settlement (and I hope that settlement is agreed upon by the court ! ).
