DISH Network(TM) Offers Consumers High-Speed Internet Options; Launch of GetConnected, Inc.'s Platform Allows Consumers to Shop for DISH Network Programming and DSL Service at the Same Time

14:39 EDT Thursday, September 21, 2006

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (Business Wire) -- EchoStar Communications Corporation (NASDAQ: DISH) and its DISH Network(TM) satellite TV service today announced that consumers now have the option to sign up for DSL high-speed Internet service while choosing their DISH Network programming. Customers can take advantage of this offer either through their local DISH Network retailer or by visiting www.dishnetwork.com.

The functionality is made possible by technology from GetConnected, Inc., a point-of-sale platform that searches for current offers available from high-speed Internet service providers based on a customer's home address and telephone number. Where available, customers can select and purchase DSL high-speed Internet service at the most current prices in the marketplace from well-known and trusted brands...

Tried my phone and address and the search came back that no service is available even though our phone company does provide DSL. This ought to be a big money maker for E* - NOT !

They haven't mentioned whether or not the rates will be discounted to compete with telephone companies, have they ??

I needed DSL, saw the news blurb, and just finished ordering through the Dish?Get Connected scheme when I saw this thread. The prices offered are the same as those available directly through the telco's. My DSL will be with Verizon, and will be billed on my local phone bill. Pretty nifty way to avoid waiting on hold for ten minutes to place an order. And I was able to see all the deals available in my area.

Although, how would I know if they weren't showing ALL avaible DSL packages.....

I agree with you except on the rain fade part. Your DSL would not be affected by "rain fade", of course... There would be nothing going through the dish...

Yes, I can second that. I lost my phone service yesterday because of the thuderstorms the night before. My dsl continued to work and I was able to inform ATT via email on their website of the problems on a Sunday morning. By 1:20pm my internet modem started blinking , my phone rang and then my internet came back on and all was fixed. They then emailed me and I told them all was fixed. When I had cable internet -Road runner I would often lose my service and it was the only thing I had with cable- NO video at all.

Also last year at this time when Hurricane Rita came through our area on 9/24/05, I had no phone service but my internet connection was still working. Once again I filed a report online and within a day it was back on. I have had dsl for over a year and a half and I don't remember more than twice losing my connection due to some computer failure in the area. DSL has proven pretty rock solid for me.

Nothing available to me in my location, either. I'm not surprised -- we've been waiting for 3 years for Qwest to get DSL here -- each time you call they say it will be within the next 60 days -- they've been saying that for 3 years now. The other diappointment for me is that I thought Dish would bundle it with their services and discount it. For areas that get Qwest DSL there is a great land line, cell phone, Direct TV, DSL package price. No matter ... no DSL for me anyway ... maybe in 60 days!!?????!!!!

The Get Connected was designed only to make a one call resolution. It was never intended to bundle services nor give discounts since they are seperate companies. Essentially you can call in and ask what's out there and have dish sign you up. Of course, troubleshooting, accounting, etc will happen through the company you go through.
