Just a little poll to see what programming package DirecTV subs subscribe to.

(All packages may not be listed so select the one closest to what you have)

I got sucked in with my NFLST to the Premier + Locals. I like all the channels, even though I don't use most of them...

TC+ & locals
NY/LA distants (since '95 - I keep them because I CAN :D )
TiVo service (2 DirecTiVos) + one extra receiver (bedroom TV)

TC+ w/locals. It is only $2 more per month to move from Total Choice to TC+ if you get locals, and that is for 15 more stations, and some of them are pretty good stations like History International, Discovery Civilization, DIY, and Discovery Wings.

If anyone cares - this is what I pay each month:
TC+w/locals - $39.99
Fox East/West - $1.17
Ultimatetv - $9.95
2nd receiver - $4.99
3rd receiver - $4.99
total - $61.09

I have subscribed to each of the premium services over the past 18 months, but didn't watch enough to justify the extra.

Since I had premier, I didn't have the to worry about leaving TC for TC+. To get Discovery Wings, I'd leave in a second... :D

Is Select Choice still available for new or existing customers? How much do they charge for it now. Anybody got Select Choice?

Select Choice is $24.99/month, it is not supposed to be available to new subs but if you get the right CSR you may get it...

Darn, up to $24.99 now for the cheap package if you can even get that, a BIG increse in such a few years. Thats a 25% increase, so maybe satellite should not talk about how they have went up less than inflation.

Looks like satellite is going to be around $30 for the cheapest package after all 210 local DMA markets go up. It just does NOT seem so competetive with cable any longer when it goes up this much. Some will say that they can get it off of an antenna and should not be charged extra. Maybe they will charge everyone that asks to have the locals taken off will receive a discount off of the bill.

Here in SLC, basic digital cable starts at $39.99 per month (AT&T Broadband), with the Bronze package (about the same as Total Choice) at $41.99. Total Choice at $31.99 ($37.99 w/locals) is still a much better deal, especially since all of the D* stations are digital. Cable prices in your area may differ, but with AT&T's increases over the past few years, as well as other customer service issues, dishes are popping up like flies here.

I know some people that switch back to cable because they get a better deal with cable while others have cable increasing very quickly going to satellite. Most people that have cable at their home or available use that instead of satellite even if it is a little higher, less hassle for them and they like simplicity.

Until cable can offer me WCBS, WNBC, WABC, WBBM and KMGH then I"ll stick with satellite. :)

For DirecTV: It's the TC package plus the LA Locals + ABC, CBS & NBC East Coast feeds. MLB and NFL packages too. You need to add the $4.99 to 6 more DirecTV receivers for a total 7 here in the room.

I was grandfathered into select choice because I refused to be bullied into the next level. I also have HBO package, and Center Ice. I am told that if I ever change programming (add, delete, get locals in area[which are not offered yet] or add direct pvr), I will HAVE to bump up. I really can not complain because my neighbors pay about 50-60 dollars for similar packages. Right now, all my locals except Fox have excellent picture quality so I am not in any hurry to change.

Why do they even bother having the lower package if it is only a DOLLAR cheaper (with locals)?? That's as stupid as the pricing structure of Big Gulps at 7-11. 89 cents for a shotglass size or 91 cents for a 3 gallon barrel.

Because it looks good on paper. :) For only $1 extra get an extra 17 channels.

I sub to total choice plus and DirecTV DVR. I used to be a Total choice sub until the price increase. I also subbed to total choice premier when they had the 6 months for 20 bucks off promo. Now I hardly have any time to watch TV so I just watch the few shows I record on my TiVo and that's it.

I subscribe to Total Choice Plus, HBO & Cinemax promo (will be dropping that in June), and of course the Tivo fee. Forgot about the mirroring fee, too. So I pay $50.17 per month including taxes.
