View Full Version : Satellite 2 not responding...
Ok, before I waste an hour of my day on the phone with a tech, I wanted to get some good info here. I am not getting a signal on satellite 2. I have both cables hooked up, and they both get 95-100 on satellite 1 when I swap them. So both cables are good. They both run through a multiswitcht (the new one). Should they run straight from the dish? So as it works now, if I am recording I can not change channels.
Any help is appreciated.

If both sat lines are definitely working, then it looks like your 2nd Sat tuner is DOA. What happens when you run a system test on the HR20? It looks like you'll have to call D* on this one so they can send you a replacement.

I'm new to the boards here, but I just had my HR20 installed yesterday and the same thing happened. The installer said if the HR20 is turned on before both lines and plugged in, it may stop sending a voltage to the sat through the second tuner. He reset the box and both tuners worked. Try resetting the box with both cables plugged in. Hope it works and good luck.

Do you have the b-band convertors connected to the HR20? Try taking them off, you may have a faulty one.
MIne is having the same problem I can't my 2nd tuner to work. I got it to work one time by pressing the reset button but it made my receiver go haywire it would not keep a steady signal on tuner 1 or 2 so after a few resets i finnaly got tuner 1 stable but tuner 2 won't send out any voltage. so dtv is sending a tech for tuesday. I'll let you know what happend but d won't send out a replacement.

I have 2 hr20 units and I had the same problem of tuner 2 not working after connedting a multiswitch and the second tuner. Both tuners showed good signals. I got on the phone with a very nice lady at tech support and after whe suggested a reset the tuners worked. No issues with either tuner since.
I am having the same issue. When I swap cable inputs, the problem follows the cable, not the tuner. In other words, I get nothing on Satellite 1, and if I swap cables, I get nothing on Satellite 2, and I get an annoying searching for signal warning I can't get rid of. I did a reset pressing red button, then unplugged the unit, waited fifteen seconds, and re-started. Problem still there.
Any ideas greatly appreciated!
I am having the same problem here is my set-up and details on transponders problems.
Ok here is a break down of everything.
18" x 24" Oval with all 3 lbs. Sat C being used as of today (more on that below)
on the dish all of the lnbs are connected and have been for 3 years into a channel master SAM4402 multiswitch.
2 output lines are used on the channel master muliswitch to run the signal into the basement where there is a Perfect Vision PVMS8ED (which was installed by D about 5 months ago when I added 3 rec. the intial setup had only 2)
Here is the rec config.
1- HR20 Installed today
1- Dual Tuner Phillips tivo
3- Regualar no tivo rec.
Now to the transponders:
On the HR20
Sat 101/Tuner 1: Transponders 1-16 range between a signal of 94-100
Sat 110/Tuner 1: Transponders 8-12 range between a signal of 91-9100
Sat 119/Tuner 1: Transponders 17-32 range between a signal of 91-98
Now when I swtich the tuner to number 2
Sat 101/119 Tuner 2: Transponders 1-16 range between a signal of 0, 84, 0, 84 the same for all transponders.
Sat 110 Tuner 2: 0 , 0 , 0

MnGuy, Welcome to DBStalk :)
If the problem is following the cable, then it most likely is a problem with that particular cable. Recheck all your connections at the receiver, dish and multiswitch.

I checked every connection I could, short of unscrewing the LNB. The cable was working fine yesterday when connected with the HD TiVo. And, curiously, I am getting some signal strength on some transponders, and strong ones on 110. I don't have a separate multiswitch, it's all done in the dish I guess...

This sounds like a cable problem not a unit problem. Check the cable that does not give a signal all the way back to the dish.

I am having the same problem. No signal on tuner 2. Cannot record something and watch live tv.
I do not have a multiswitch. 4 lines come into the house and essentially straight to the HR 20 (2 lines), a very old standard def dtv tivo (1 line), and a newer std def dtv tivo (1 line).
They installed the new 5 lnb dish and the HR20 - 700 about two weeks ago. I called them the night they installed it saying the second tuner was not working.
A tech came out last Wed and checked every line connection - no problems.
He strongly believed it was a bad receiver (doa).
He instructed DTV to order me a new HR20 to swap out, but I called them on Friday and they now say its backordered. Ugh!
I am also having problems on the one tuner that works. Today I recorded Bengals-Steelers game and I just tuned in to start watching. When I pressed play in the MYVOD menu it was just a grey screen. I could not get the playback to work at all. I reset the system and when it came back the Bengals-Steelers game was gone. Ok, now I am really mad!!!
This all started because my old HD Tivo went out. This transition to the new HR20 is not going well................
Further diagnosis:
I disconnected the new DVR and reconnected the HD TiVo. Same issue. Great strength on 110, bad or nothing on most of transponders on 101 and 119. The cables were working just fine yesterday as they were connected to the HD TiVo and I had no issues.
Could he have connected something wrong? I have four lines running from that new dish, and three seem to be working just fine. It's weird that I would have rock solid signal on three of the four wires, and on the 110 bird on the fourth.
As I said, I have no external multi-switch.

in general on a new unit hook the power supply cord up LAST.
My installer told me to connect both satellite cables to the HR20 and THEN connect the power. If you connect the power before the two cables the HR20 might not recognize the second tuner.
Had a problem similar to Carbon above on first TWO HR20s bought at BB. Only even numbered transponders picked up signal (ie. 0 89 0 94 0 92 0, etc.) on one of the tuners. Tech brought in a HR20 from his truck and it worked fine. Third HR20 from BB worked, but has all sorts of glithces and freeze ups even after it downloaded software update. Right now, my local HD channels have no sound for some reason. Local SDs have sound and HBO HD and SHO HD have sound. Very frustrated with this unit and might go back to HR10-250 or consider switch to cable to get the new HD Tivo.....except I love NFL ticket.

Again, same issue here with tuner 2......Cables worked fine on TiVo unit this morning. No or very low signal on some of the transponders on 2. Also not recognizing it as even being hooked up.
I'm on my 4th reset of the day. Just issue after issue besides the tuner 2 issue. The installer had a heck of a time getting it going this morning also. Cables have been unplugged etc. Power unplugged etc. No difference.
I guess I'll call them in the morning.......

Intermitent "searching for signal, sat 2 in.." lasts 2 to 5 seconds a couple of times up to 10secs. Happens on chnl change between or to mpeg4 chnl. with or without bbc connected and stays on sat 2 when I swap inputs! bth tuners show "excelent" signal strength......... not overly concerned because it hasn't interfered with viewing or recording!
I noticed on a couple of resets that I did, that the 2nd tuner didn't pop in for about 5 minutes. I played with trying to record 2 programs at once, to force both tuners to activate. This worked, but the 2nd reset took a little longer.

same thing is happening with me cept sometimes it says Sat 1, other times it says sat 2. If I immediately check it says both tuners have 95% signal. Sometimes its channel specific. I can look at one channel and theres no problem but I switch to another channel and it pops up on the bottom of the screen sayins theres a problem on the other tuner. Direct tv is sending me a new one fed ex but not because of this but because of the bonehead installer i had. Im gonna take advice and hook everything up BEFORE pluggin it in, install update right away and see what happens.

I disconnected power and two sat cables. Reconnected sat cables first and reconnected power supply. No change, I still have an issue in recognizing sat2...........

I have been getting the same problem on a HR10-250. When I check the signal strenth, it shows problems with 119 degree transponder. The signal lock on ESPN2 HD has been getting worse over the last 2 weeks. Does anyone know whether ESPN2 HD is on the 119 degree transponder?
Well, DirecTv is going to FedEx a new receiver to me. They said the tuner was having issues. I thank them for sending it FedEx and not with an installer.

Hey guys,
I just experienced this last night. My R15 was displaying the same "No signal in Satellite 2" for two days and I would simply restart the box up. Last night that didn't work anymore so I had to run the auto configure procedure. That cured it and got a signal back but now I don't have access to the 95 satellite and my international channels are gone. I called DTV and had them flush the programming and it still would not come up. Tech is coming NEXT Wednesday. Sigh.
I also had a D11 that was losing signal with the 95 satellite in my basement. Reran the auto configure and it lost it totally. Tech came out for that one too.
What's going on with these boxes?

With multiple irds loosing the same satellite it sounds more like a multiswitch or LNB issue than a receiver issue. If it was just 1 ird then I could see it being in the receiver.
