Is this going to be 24/7?

It figures they would finally allow D* to have the HD feed once the baseball season is over. What a bunch of knuckleheads! Oh well next season.

Earl Bonovich
09-27-06, 07:31 AM
No. Comcast SportsNet Chicago is not 24/7 in HD anyway... Right now only for home MLB, NBA, NHL games

Earl, according to the press release at http://phx.corporate-ir.net/phoenix.zhtml?c=127160&p=irol-newsArticle&ID=880397&highlight= it says: In August DIRECTV will deliver HD MLB games from SportsNet New York (Mets), as well as continuous 24/7 HD feeds from Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic HD (Orioles) and Comcast SportsNet Chicago HDTV (Cubs, White Sox).
So I take that to mean 24/7.

Earl Bonovich
09-27-06, 08:20 AM
Well... so they may be "carring" in 24/7 mode..
But Comcast SportsNet themselves doesn't broadcast 24/7 in HD... the only things they have in HD are the HOME professional games.

And their studio shows are in 16:9, probably 480p, don't know for sure. But at least you don't have to remember to tune to a 9X channel to watch the HD programming, it's just there on 640 automagically. :)

And to be picky, then ESPN/ESPN2, HBO, Showtime, etc are not full time 24x7 channels based on your defintion.

Earl Bonovich
09-27-06, 08:31 AM
:) I agree with you.

At least ESPN plasters there goofy frame around a 4:3 non-HD broadcast

Larry G
09-27-06, 08:47 AM
So, like any other local HD, I can expect to see an additional ch 640 for the HD above the SD 640, correct?

Earl Bonovich
09-27-06, 08:48 AM
Actually... I think they are "slipping" it over. like they do CDUSA

So if you are on an MPEG-4 HD box, you will get the HD feed
If you are not, then the SD... only one channel listing in the guide

is this only for chicago? and if not what channel will we get it on?

From the press release mentioned above, The RSNs' HD games will be broadcast by DIRECTV via a local market spot beam, and as a result, the RSN programming will be available only to those customers who live within the local DMA (designated market area) spot beam and the RSN team territory. The games will be available at no extra charge.

So it looks like if you aren't in the Chicago MPEG4 spot beam and eligable to receive CCSN-HD as part of your local channels you won't get it.

As was mentioned, if you are in chicago you should be seeing two channels labeled as 640. One is the SD feed the other is the HD feed. I have had access to both all day(since 6am).

do you think I will be able to receive that channel here in Wisconsin, little north of Milwaukee

Earl, CSN Chicago is a 24/7 channel. I'm not 100% sure for the HD, but they just got a deal for FSN programming too, so I bet a fulltime HD channel could be in the mix, since it is on the Indy / Chicago beam.

I live on the Illinois/Wisconsin border north of Rockford and I receive Comcast Sports Chicago as my regional sports channel with Directv. It does not appear they are giving me the HD feed as my HD locals come from Madison, WI.

Does anyone have any information about this. Will Directv ever give the Comcast Sports Chicago feed in HD to everyone who receives that station as their regional sports network?

Do you have the AT9 (KA/KU) dish and a H20 or HR20 receiver?

Then my guess would be that D* thinks that the Chicago MPEG4 sporbeam doesn't cover your area, or they just messed up. You might want to call or send an e-mail asking them to clearify if you should get it or not.

I'm sort of in the same boat, in Austin but we get Astro and Rangers games on our RSN. Now are it in the Dallas and Houston beam area or outside of it so we won't get them? My guess is no such luck.

It is on cable in Lafayette and Indy: however the retardeddimwits running insight have the SD feed AND the HD feed on the analog system...2 analog channels; one in 4.3 the other in SD16.9...these people no longer deserve my business.

I was just wondering about you guys talking about no home hockey games. Are Blackhawks home games really not televised? How can they get away with that? Here we have every Avalanche game on TV and every home game in HD. Crazy

DCSholtis

Apparently the Owner of the Blackhawks is old school and believes home telecasts hurts his gate. Therefore refuses to allow home games on TV.

Wow that sucks. I think having a terrible team affects the gate more.

Yah... and what the genious doesn't realize... is that you can't build your fan base, without giving them an avenue to know your team....

So instead of letting an "unknowing" fan base, learn and watch your team on TV... how are you expexting them to drop serious $$$ to go see them live.

I could go on for days about how an original six franchise has been ruined singlehandedly by one man, but I have the Bears, the Bulls, and the Sox to keep me busy. I love hockey, but Wirtz isn't going to get a dime out of me. Hockey is dead to me until he sells the franchise.

I feel bad for the new players he signs. They have no idea what their walking into. Did I mention the blackhawks had the lowest home % attendance in the NHL last year (65%)???

Just to confirm, I have to have the new MPEG4 box and the AT9 dish to get ComcrapSports Chicago HD on 640?
