Hi Guys,

I have had two Dish 500 installed for Indian/American channels. It was installed by some Dish contractor. But my american channels stopped working. I am suspecting the dish is blocked by leaves.

I am looking to move this dish to a more clear area. One problem is I can't get anyone to move this and people who do agree are charging me a lot of money.

I want to now do this on my own. What do I need? And is it doable?

I currently have only one TV on the house using DISH. I plan to have 2 or 3 more. So what do I need to get?

Also, if and when I move the DISH, how do I check what direction its pointing at and what the signal strength is?

I know this is a verrrrry newbie question, but please bear with me. Thanks in advance.

Have you called Dish and complained? Tell them you want a refund of your programming charges. After all, it was their installer who messed up your dish location.

You also have some negotiating strength, because you plan on upgrading your service. The simplest and cheapest way to serve multiple TV sets is just to use the RF output on the back of your receiver and run coax to all the TV locations. However, this sticks everyone with watching the same channel. If you want to watch separate programming, you need a separate receiver at each location. If you are adding a receiver, see if you can get Dish to move your D500 as part of the deal. I think they will go for it.

You can also upgrade to a HD receiver. If you upgrade to a 622, it has two tuners and will serve both a remote Standard Definition and a local High Definition TV set. The 622 would come with a new dish installation, to see three satellite locations.

If you still want to move the 110/119 dish yourself, and are sure it is blocked and not failed, go ahead. You will need a few tools, a good magnetic compass, and the information out of the Echostar Knowledge Base at http://ekb.dbstalk.com/34
